And here's the first update! Praise the Lord for *details*, though I'm a little concerned about the things they're missing--yikes!

We are writing this email to you from the middle of the Amazon Basin, in the city of Manaus. Our journey, for the most part went very well. We saw the first answer to prayer when all our bags (plus two extra) were checked through without any questions. We travelled together with a group of five other Americans that knew one of our team members, Daniel. They were going to another city but travelled all the way to Manaus and we enjoyed their company. We had way too much food given to us by loving parents and we ate very well before the flight, then gave the rest to other teams that flew out later than us. We were able to keep some goodies as carry-ons and so are still enjoying the pleasures of American junk food. Thank you parents! We did have some trouble at Manaus Airport upon arrival. The Customs didn't allow any animal products, so we lost a lot of meat and powdered milk. I thought Vanja (leader) was going to cry, but she was fine and just said that the Lord has other ways of supplying our needs this summer. One of those ways has been the church here in Manaus that is hosting us. We are staying with the Methodist Church and they have given us airconditioned rooms and each night we are doing presentations in different churches around the city. Each church supplies a 'snack' which is as good as dinner for us. We did arrive without two bags though and they should be arriving by Wednesday. One was an equipment bag and the other was our leader Suzy's. She had some clothes in her carry-on fortunately. Today we exchanged our money and bought our boat tickets for the trip down the Amazon. Tonight we caught the local bus system to the church. An hour riding on a crowded bus, but a good missionary experience for the group. Tomorrow we have an outing to see the 'joining of the waters' where Black River meets Salomoes River to form the Amazon. Two separate coloured waters that run side by side for miles... simply amazing to see. Then we will visit some places with the wildlife and huge water lillies. Then back to the base for another evening of EV and church presentation. Thursday we will buy our hammocks and other goods and then on Friday we head off for Belem. Four days on the boat and we should be arriving in Belem by Tuesday. Everyone is doing fine. We send our love to family and friends. Thanks for your prayers. God is so faithful and we just want to share His love with all the Brasilians we meet. Pray that our team may bless many this summer as we go.
Amazing. Please keep the team in your prayers!
