Laundry/School/Craft Room Redo Almost Done! FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

*Click on "archives" in the right sidebar if you're looking for more!*

So it's been what, 4 weeks???  And I'm finally posting pictures of our laundry room redo.  Why, you ask?  Because it's *almost* done!  I'm going to try to find someone handy with time to come in and finish all the nuts and bolts this week, because I'm ready for it to be completed and Rob just doesn't have time.  Anyway, wanted to get some pics up and show you how much fun I had--check these out, compared to the befores!  Big difference, LOL!

And here's a closeup of my marvellous workboxes--Toria's, actually.

I will admit; this was a very hectic morning.  First of all, I filled EVERYONE'S boxes--all 12 of them--for today, the first day of school.  And that was a mistake, LOL.  Perhaps with one child, but not so much with four doing school at once!  If I were to begin again (lucky you, you've got my mistake to learn from!) I'd probably have only filled the first 3 or 4 boxes for each child today and built from there.  Of course, the girls woke early and wanted to start while I was still getting dressed, making breakfast and trying to finish packing Josiah's boxes (the boys were in their room with the lights off last night before I was done!) so they probably would have complained about them not being ALL FULL, but it would have made my day much less crazy if there wasn't so much to do today.  The kids needed a lot of explanation and then re-explanation about when and how to use the schedule strips, what to do with their boxes when they finished, how to approach me for help, etc. etc.  And that was aside from the usual adjustments to new curriculum ("How do we open the math program on the computer?  How many pages do I do in the handwriting book?  How do I outline this history article I just finished reading?")

Of course, while the 4 oldest were working on their boxes, Micah was wandering throughout the house (Shawne, I need that gate quick!  ) with a new find--a very loud golf ball, which he was bouncing on the wood and tile floors.  Egads.  I hate that noise!  So I need to think a bit more about what to do with him while everyone else is working.  And it's going to take some time to get everyone used to the "no talking during workbox time!" rule, too!

All in all, I know it's going to be a great year!  I feel so organized (even my mother in law was impressed with how neat it all looked) and the kids know they've accomplished a lot; the girls are done for the day with all 12 boxes and it's 11:45 am (we started with Bible at breakfast, then did our Story of the World history reading, then sent everyone to their boxes around 9:30, I'd say) and they're off with popsicles in the back yard having done phonics, grammar, a couple different math games and workbook pages, spent 15 minutes each playing with Micah (he got a new puzzle, some books, and bubbles to play with today) and whatever else was in those boxes (I don't remember it all, LOL--there are 48 of them!)

Josiah's still working on his math (he's so excited about Teaching Textbooks, and so am I!) and Levi's moving ahead.  Laundry is running; it's time to have everyone take a break for an hour while I make lunch so they'll all go swimming in the pool.  Ahhhhh!  A day of accomplishment!  :-)
