Long weekend

We did just a little bit of school today.   We got all of the rest of it done earlier this week.    The kids are ahead so they get to have tomorrow off.   They get a three day weekend.    They are very excited about that, especially because we just bought them a Nintendo Wii.   They get to have fun with that instead of school work.    We promised to buy them one if they did well last school year.    There was just about 1 month left of school and they were starting to get bored with the work, so we gave them an incentive.    We were just now able to buy them one.   They are thrilled!!!

I am working on some more sewing.   I started making some pot holders out of fall fabric.   It has charlie brown and snoopy on it.   It is adorable.    They are cute potholders.   I just need to work out some of the errors I made on the first one.   Hopefully I get better at it.   The main problem I am having is putting the bias tape on it.   I have never done that before and don't really have anyone to show me.   So I am learning by myself.   It is nice though to be able to look this stuff up online.   I found how to do it,  I just need to get better at it.

It is very cold today.   I am dressed in pants, a huge sweatshirt, and I have socks on.   It usually takes a lot for me to put socks on.   If I could,   I would walk around with bare feet everywhere I went.     But,  seeing that it is only just above 50 degrees,  my toes are freezing!!!!!!!!!

Well that is about it for now.    Hubby is taking our son to cub scouts tonight.   It is his first official meeting.  He is happy about that.     I am going to go cuddle under a blanket now.

New Month

Happy October!!!   I love the month of october!!   I love fall.   I think it is my favorite season.    Hubby and I celebrate our 9th anniversary this month.   I don't think we are doing anything exciting though.   Hopefully next year for our tenth we will be able to go on a nice trip.     I would really like to go to New York and go Ice skating.  That has always been my dream.   We would have to wait until it gets colder though.   I also wouldn't mind going to mexico or Hawaii.    Oh  Big Dreams!!!!!!    Maybe someday........

Free Starbucks!!

Yep I said it.    If you have a starbucks near you,  venture out on Sept. 29th for your free cup of coffee.   Be prepared though to prove that you are a homeschool mom.    They offer free coffee to teachers and they included homeschool parents for this deal.   I think that is great.   I am gonna go get my coffee for sure.    Here is a article about it.    Free Coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!       Here is the article from  HSLDA.
I think that is a great idea and I am so glad that they included homeschooling parents.   I hope to head out monday morning to get my coffee.    Hope you get to enjoy the freebie as well......

On a side note

Homeschool has been going very well.   My children are doing an excellent job.   For some reason though, my son does not think he does very well.   I personally think he is doing a fine job.   He is so hard on himself.    Today he was writing numbers by tens.   He knows how to say them very well,  but, for some reason when he wrote them down he wrote  10, 20, 30, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81, 99.    So I just explained to him what he needs to fix and he started crying.   I felt really bad.   I went on to explain though, that he is learning and that is why we have school.   If he knew everything then he wouldn't need school.    He is such a cute little guy and I think he was just having a moody streak.

On a side note,  Sewing has been going really well.   I love to sew.   I will sew clothes but I much rather sew different stuff like coasters,  placemats,  pillows, toys, blankets,  I spy bags and stuff like that.    Today I  made my children each a  Crayon Roll  thanks to this tutorial I found.    They were easy and a  lot of fun to make.   My kids thought they were wonderful.

I also made them hats last night.   I guessed on how big to make them because I could not measure their heads.   They were sleeping.   So after I was done making them, I snuck up to their rooms and tried them on their heads.    They didn't fit.    I was bummed because they were the cutest things and My daughter's especially turned out really cute.    So today I went and bought more fleece so I could make ones that actually fit.     This is the hat I made them. Of course, I altered it for my son so his wasn't so girly.   I am gonna try again tonight.   Hopefully they will turn out.

The kids both start scouts tomorrow.   This is my daughter's second year and my son's first.   He is very excited.   I am too because I know he wants to join scouts so badly.    My daughter enjoyed it tremendously last year.    They do many activities together.   It is really good for them.   I kinda wish I could have done girl scouts when I was a child.

Well pizza is almost here.   I am way hungry.   It's time to go eat.

Fun with songs

Today I taught my children several songs that I learned from my childhood.    Now they have been singing all day.  It was a lot of fun to see them sing and laugh at the songs.   I had to look a few up to make sure I was singing them right.    See if you know any of these............

On Top Of Spaghetti

Baby bumblebee

Swimming, Swimming

Alice

Alice the Camel

I am a C

Happy all the time

There are many more songs I could put.   Here are just a few.    I hope you find them funny because most of them are and I remember having a fun time singing them when I was a child.....

Pictures

Sorry there is a lack of pictures.  My dog chewed up the cord for my battery charger to my digital camera.   Also,  my 35mm camera needs a new battery as well.   So for right now,  I am without a camera.      I need to get something soon.    I love taking pics and this is getting boring without being able to show some pictures.    Oh well,   maybe soon the problem will be solved....

Christmas!

Yep!!   I said it.....Christmas!!!!  Just over a 100 days until that day.   I have been looking online today to get ideas for gifts.   I am gonna be making all of my gifts this year for the relatives.   Since I took up the art of sewing,  I figured I better put it to use.     I think it will be a wonderful thing.  I am sure I will have tons of fun with it.    I am trying to figure out what I should make for each person.   It's nice because it is personalized.   I have a great idea for my youngest niece.   I just really hope she likes it.    I found this blog  on felt food.   I really hope she likes it.   I think I might make a simple apron with it too.     So, that is one gift down.      For all of the boys I think I am gonna make I spy bags.    I will have to come up with something different for one of my nephews because I had already given him one of these.     As far as my oldest niece,  I think I just might make her a matching fleece blanket and pillow with a high school musical theme.   I am excited to make this stuff.   I just hope everyone will like their homemade gifts.
Today we got a new couch, chair, and love seat.    Well it is new to us.   My mother in law brought it down for us.   She got some new furniture so she gave us her old stuff.   It really isn't that old and is in really good condition.   It is red and I love it.   The only problem is our living room is green.   It actually doesn't look too awful bad though.   I am so grateful that she gave this too us.    Our couch was starting to smell old and dirty and it had a pretty big hole in it from the animals.
Well it is the start of a new week.    I am excited about school.   I am looking into doing some really fun stuff with the kids this week.     They are really liking school this year and I am so glad.
Well my kiddos are in the back yard with their dad shooting the bow.   They are having a fun time.  It is really muggy today though.  I am so hot and sweaty.    I can't wait until I can lay in my bed and turn the air conditioning on.   It is a good thing we didn't take that out of the window yet.
Well my dinner is cooking in the oven.   I am so hungry.   I made Pigs in a blanket casserole!!!
I am gonna go and enjoy my dinner now!!!!!!

Rainy

Today it has been raining all day.    We got up this morning with plans to go to a football field and do a solar system project.     That did not happen because it was too rainy to explore space today.    So instead we went and got some lunch and bought the children each a webkinz.   They really enjoyed that.   They have been receiving special prizes lately because they have been doing so well with many things.   For one,  they have been keeping their rooms amazingly clean.   Two,  the school work has been getting done and without much complaining.    Thirdly,  this new eating habit has been going over very well with the children.    They have been such troopers.   So my hubby thought it was time for a reward.    They appreciated it.
Also, we took a field trip today.   We went to a local cavern.   It was very cool.   There are about 8 or so in our state.   My husband and  I have both been to a few but neither of us have been to this one.   The kids enjoyed it a lot.    They were a bit afraid at first.   I don't think they really knew what to expect.    I think we all had a great time.   It was well worth the visit.    They also got a few little souvenirs.    I want to teach them more about the caves and the people who might have used it way back when.
We arrived at the caves fairly early.   We had about a 25 minute wait before our tour began.   We were waiting outside under a covering(it was raining).    My son looked down and saw a small snake.   IT was a baby.    We are not sure exactly what kind of snake it was.   My husband picked it up and placed it in the woods.   We did not want the snake to get stepped on.   My son was very pleased with himself that he found the little snake.
So today was a good day.    I got to take a nap as well.    Hubby took the children over to my moms.  He was practicing with his bow out in their back yard.    While he did that,   I stayed home and slept.   It was very nice.    Hubby and I got to go out for a little bit by ourselves last night.    My mother in law kept the kids over night.   We had a good time.    We went and saw one of hubby's friend who is a Comedian.   It was quite fun.   But, we did get very little sleep.
Well I must go.   Hubby and children will be home soon and I am sure their bellies will be wanting some grub.......

Time for an update.

I have been off of the computer for a while.    While I was gone a few things have happened.    My daughter had her 8th birthday!!!   It was nice.    She got roller blades and all the gear to go along with it.   We also took her to the park.   She had a lot of fun.
We started school last week.   It is going very well.    This is  my fourth year of homeschooling.   To me, that is a bit surprising.   Where did all the time go?   This year has started out very well.   Every year it is a challenge to find the right curriculum and the right timing to do everything.    My husband and I  came up with a schedule this year and it is working out very well.   Our curriculum seems to be working well too.  There are a few things that my daughter doesn't like but she still does them anyway.    Right now,  I would say her favorites subjects are math and spelling.    She always loves science no matter what we do.   But,  for her to love spelling and math is just amazing.  LOL.     The spelling program I got for her is working out very well.   It is exactly what she needed.   The math we are working on is just review but it makes it a lot of fun for her.   Her writing is improving too.    I am very pleased.
My son is adjusting well to his schedule too.   I am working just on the main subjects for him.   I am concentrating on Math, writing, and reading with him.    His little fingers are still a bit weak, so his writing is still a tad wobbly.   He is getting better though.   Our doctor says he has weak joints.   They just need exercise and will get better.   That is how his knees were.    His knees were very weak and would give out on him.   But, now that he rides his bike,  we have not had that problem.   I am sure it will be the same way with his fingers.   Once they get stronger,  his writing will improve.    He also loves his math program.   He thinks it is fun and is doing very well.   Right now he is learning how to add.   He can answer most of the problems pretty quickly, which is good.    We are working on the three family this week.    His reading is improving.   He can read.  He just has no motivation too.   I am not trying to push him too hard though.  I don't want him to hate it.    He is realizing though, that he can read and is getting more confident with it.
Anyway.   That is where we are at with school.   I hope the rest of the school year goes this well.
As far as other things go.   The puppy is doing very well.   We have had him just a few weeks.   He is already learning to potty outside.   That is amazing.  With our other dog, it took much longer.   Also,  I read online that it could be difficult to potty train this breed.   So,  I am glad it is going well.   He is the cutest little thing.
All of us are getting over colds.   It was kinda rough.   We all had bad congestion in our chest.   It made it hard to breathe.   My son still has a yucky runny nose.  He and my husband had it the worst.   Our daughter had it for just a day or two.   Mine seems to come and go.   I think mine has a lot to do with allergies.
I can not wait for fall.    The weather around here has not exactly been typical August weather.   It has been more like fall and I love it.    It is making me want fall to be here already.
We have been watching the Olympics lately.   I really enjoy watching it.   I have been trying to get the kids interested but I can only keep their attention for just a few minutes and then they walk away.   I am planning on doing an Olympic Lap book  with them.    I was hoping they would get more into the olympics but that's okay.    They can still learn about it.    I am excited about it.   It seems like the lap book is going to be fun.   I might post pictures once we are done.
As far as cable in our house,  well,  it only lasted a few months.   We are having it shut off on friday.   We got ourselves onto a new budget, and there is no room for cable.   I am okay with that.    It takes up too much of our day when we have it.    Also,  I really am looking forward to having this budget work out for us.   It is amazing to see everything fall into place.   It is also amazing to see how much we actually did spend on things not needed.   It will take a lot of sacrificing right now but our future looks very bright.
Well that is our life for now.    Lunch time is just about over.   Now it is time for math.    Have a wonderful week.......

A few sewing projects

I am trying to get better at sewing.   I am learning.   I have tried sewing a few different things now.   You can tell I am still a rookie.   Hopefully soon it will get easier.   Here are a few things I made.
This is a taggie blanket for babies.   It is not the prettiest thing but, for now, I am just using cheap material.  I will wait until I get better to use nice more expensive material.   But,  its practice anyway.....

Here is a little pillow I made for Titus.   He loves it as you can see.   At least he doesn't care what my sewing looks like.   He just knows it is comfortable.   :)

Here are a few more of the I spy bags that I have been making.   I made these to for a friends daughter.  I am not sure which one I am going to give her yet.   They both turned out decent.   They still have mistakes but I am sure she won't care.

Well That's it for now as far as sewing goes.

My niece and nephew are leaving on thursday to go back home.   They will probably be back in December.   I am kind of sad that they are leaving.    It is tough having them so far away.   They grow up so quickly.    Today was the last day that we got to see them before they leave.    They start school very soon.

Speaking of school,  my kiddos are gonna be starting school in about 14 days or so.   I went and picked up school books from the local elementary school today.   I basically got them so I could look and see what kind of stuff they are learning this year.   We are pretty much on track with the school district.   I might use some things out of those books, but,  I like my curriculum much better than the books they are using.

Well I have to go get ready.  I have quite a bit of work to get done.    TTFN!

His First

My son finally lost his first tooth today.   He had a bit of trouble with it.   When his tooth first came in, I noticed it was larger than a normal baby tooth.   Well in the end, he only got three out of the four front bottom baby teeth(incisors).  Two of the teeth were fused together.     So,  about a month ago he had an abscess right below that tooth.   We got him some medication and it went away.   Then a week later he got a sore on the back of the tooth(on the gum).   Well Then I realized that his adult tooth was coming in behind his baby tooth.   I called the dentist thinking they were gonna pull it but they didn't.   They said it was normal.   So his baby tooth slowly got loose.  We just kept working at it.   Finally today,  my son pulled it out.  He was soooooooo proud.  He does have another one loose.  It will probably be a few weeks.   Here is a picture of my cute son and his missing tooth.

Today I am.....

very tired for some reason.   I am not quite sure why.   I did go to bed late and get up earlier than normal but I am just exhausted.   I took a nap on the couch but feel like I could go to sleep now and not wake up until tomorrow sometime.   Well I am sure I will be fine.  One reason I got little sleep last night was because of this guy.
Yes, we got another pet.  This is the last one.  He is three months old.   His name is Titus.  He is a domeranian,  which is a mix between dachshund and pomeranian.  my all time favorite dog is a dachshund.  I wanted one so badly.  I almost got one about 5 months ago.   but he was $250.    This little guy was free.   Yes, our house is full of animals.   But, they are all awesome and would have more if I could.

I started sewing a thing called I spy bag.   It is like a bean bag but it has little trinkets in it that you need to find.   I am trying to make some for birthday presents and such, but I need to get better at it first.  Right now I am just practicing.    Here is a photo of one of my finished products.
Its a work in progress.

I want to make one for my friends daughter.  Her birthday is in just  a few days.   I hope I get the stitching down so it looks nice.   If not I am sure she will love it anyway.

Well I got my affidavit and all the paperwork that goes with it,  turned into the school district.  I have all my books as well.   SO I guess we are officially ready to start school.   We will wait until after our daughter's 8th birthday to start.   That is in just a few weeks though.   Well I am done for now.   I have my puppy on my lap and our other dog is trying to wake him up and also is managing to drool all over my legs.   YUCK!

New furry friend

Thats right!!!   We got another kitten tonight.   She is a calico.   Her name is  Little Miss Cutie Cheeks or cheeks for short.   The kids named her.   We already had two cats, one being a calico and one a gray tiger striped.   So far the other cats don't care for her too much.   That is to be expected though.    Cheeks is adorable.   She is so tiny.   She is 12 weeks old.  She didn't cry at all on the ride home.   She kept looking around at different lights and cars.   She is a very curious kitty,  I can tell that already.    Well when she is not camera shy-I will take a pic of her and post it on here.     Maybe one more dog and we will be done.  LOL

Tuba pain

My brother called me yesterday.   He is in the Army.   He told me of a parachute accident  that happened the other day.  It looks very painful.   Just think,  one minute you are playing the tuba and the next minute your knocked out laying on the grass.    The parachuter was having some sort of control problem and missed his designated landing mark.
Anyway,  I have all my school books now to start school.   We will be starting on. August 11th.   I am ready but then again,  I still want more of a break.     I am excited though to see how the children like their new books.   I know my kids are excited about math anyway, thanks to two very cool books.   I am gonna start of by teaching my son addition and also reviewing it with my daughter.  My son looked  through the book yesterday and was ready to start.   He thought it was amazing.    So I am excited about that.   Addition the fun way will make learning addition fun.    I also got a book for my daughter that will help her to learn  multiplication.    My children learn well this way.    If I tried to just pound it into their heads they wouldn't get it.   But, being able to see pictures and associate is how they learn best.
I also got a new spelling book for my kids.   I hope they do well with it.   Spelling is not a strength of my daughters but hopefully after this year that will change.   I used to be a very good speller in elementary school.   That was the one thing I did well in.   So hopefully,  my daughter will enjoy  spelling just as much as I did.
I am finishing up all my paper work that needs to be sent in.   This is my first year doing that so I am nervous about it.   I know everything will be fine though.   I am following the laws and as long as I do that,  I am good to go.   I have to get my oldest a check up here real soon.  Hopefully I can do that next week sometime.
Well I must clean my house.  Then I can get to my new favorite hobby.    Sewing!!!

Finalization

I am working on getting everything I need for the next school year completed.   I have to send in my letter of intent, finish buying the school books, and get a schedule down.   This year I have found so many fun looking workbooks and such for the kids.  I really need to narrow it down.   For some reason, I have found so many history books that I just love.  I am having a hard time picking out which ones will be best for my kids.  I think they would enjoy them all.   I would buy them all if I could and just pick through what we really like and then sell the others.   But,  our budget doesn't allow that.   I guess I will just pick a few and go from there.   I love buying new school books.   Then again,  I get nervous too because I want to pick the right things.
I am also going through my bookmarks on the computer and trying to delete the ones I don't need.  I have so many of them.  Usually what I do is,  if I find something that looks interesting, I will bookmark it to look at later.  Usually,  I don't look at it later.  LOL.   But It does look as though I deleted a few a while back that I really wanted to keep.  I am looking for one particular thing and can't find it.   I found some very neat comic books I am sure my daughter would love to read.  I hope I find the link again soon.
My daughter is going into third grade.  WOW!   She will be 8 next month.    My son is going to be in 1st grade and is 6 1/2.   I am excited for next year but then again,  I am nervous.   I am going on my 4th year of homeschooling and I am still not confident as I wish I was.  Although,  my husband encourages me all the time.   I know I am doing a good job.   My kids are learning just fine.  They have a few things they could brush up on, but,  what child doesn't??
I am actually ready for the school year to start.  I am ready to teach them again.  We have had off since sometime in May.  I am debating on whether I should start august 1st or if I should wait until after my daughter's birthday which is the week after.  I am not sure yet what I want to do.   I do like starting in early august though.  It gives us a little more freedom.  We can work at our own pace.   We usually get done in early may which is nice too.
Well I have many, many things I am interested in writing about.   But if I do that, this entry would be very long.   My mind is racing in 100 different directions.   All of them being good directions.  Just where I want to go with my life and homeschooling and our lives as a family.  I am very optimistic as to what is coming up in our lives.  I am ready for change.   Change can sometimes be a scary thing but I am not scared for once.  I am ready for God to do whatever needs to be done.  I know it will all be worth it in the end.

I will write more later.  I am very ambitious right now.  So I best get the stuff done before I lose that ambition..............
Until next time.

Life as we know it

I decided that I would update on things going on in our house that I have blogged about before.   First off being our swimming pool.   When we came home from camping, our pool water was green.  So we decided to empty the pool.  At the bottom of our pool sat algae.  It sat there for a long time.  Finally today, we cleaned out the pool and now it has beautiful clear water in it.  I wonder how long that will last?
We have had cable for about a month now I guess.  It has been working out pretty well.   The first day we got it,  I allowed our children to sit and watch tv for most of the night.   They watched mainly spongebob.  After that though,  we have monitored their tv watching.   They do watch it for a little while before bed.  I was surprised today to see my daughter choose the history channel over spongebob.   That is awesome.  One of the main reasons I wanted cable was for the educational channels.  I plan on using the history channel during the school year.   She sat there with her dad and watched a show.  She loved it and talked about it almost all day.
Both of the girl scout camps went well.  She had lots of fun.  The princess camp was the most fun for her.  They made many, many crafts.  They had a jousting tournament which was really cute to watch.   All in all, she seemed to enjoy herself.  I can't wait to get my son into boy scouts.  I hope he has just as much fun with that as my daughter does with girl scouts.
My niece and nephew are still in town visiting.  They go home in august.   My kids enjoy when they come over.   Sometimes though,  my kids get pooped out from being so out of the daily routine.  Which happens a lot when their cousins are here.
Well there it is.   The exciting life of "US".  I need to go to bed.  My daughter has a dentist appointment tomorrow first thing in the morning.

Volunteer, salsa, and Camp

This morning I went to a local museum and helped out with some cleaning.  I try to do this every Tuesday.  Today we just cleaned the windows and the sandbox and a few other small chores.
I had to do some grocery shopping today.   We were very low on food.   I usually have a ton of bread, hamburger, and other meats on stock.   To let you know  how "out of food" we were,  we had zero bread left, zero packs of hamburger, and our deep freezer was not even a quarter of the way full.  Now,  We are slowly stocking back up.  I bought about 8 packs of hamburger and six loaves of bread.   I would love to be able to buy a half of cow and gets all sorts of meat from it.   That is something to think about in the future.  It is cheaper that way.
On our grocery list, I made it a point  to get the ingredients for hubby to make fresh salsa.  His salsa is so yummy.  He has not made it in a long time.   My son helped him make it.  He liked adding the ingredients to the bowl.  He didn't like so much though, that he had to go wash his hands after practically every pepper he added.  I don't think he understood how hot the peppers were and how much they could burn his eyes if he rubbed them while he had the pepper juice on his hands.    Anyway,  it was fun to watch them two make salsa together.  I can't wait to dig in tonight after it chilled in the fridge for a few hours.
My daughter has girl scout camp this week again.   She had one last week as well.  This week is a princess/castle theme.    They are doing many fun things.   She gets to do a scavenger hunt,  have a feast,  archery, jousting, and many other fun things.  Today she dressed up in her maiden gown she had from halloween.   She enjoys it.   She also likes the fact that she gets to eat there.   It is a four day camp for four hours a day.   I think next year we might try an overnight camp.   We will see.
My dog, Higgins,  has been doing well lately.   He has been very calm for the most part.   Although, a couple of days ago, he tore up my one very nice blanket.  He ripped it to shreds all over my room.  It was very messy.  He also is trying out his dominance with peeing in a few different places around the house.  I am not sure why he is doing this.  Probably just to see if he can get away with it.   He has been trying different things lately.   He also had a short lived nipping fest going on.  He would nip at you to get your attention.   That has stopped though thank goodness.    He will eventually be a Great dog!!!   For now though, he is an annoying puppy.

No fudge for me

I love cooking and I especially love baking.   I love making homemade things.  I enjoy making cakes, pies, breads, apple dumplings, cookies of all sorts, and the list could go on.   The one thing not on that list though, is Fudge!!!!   I love fudge don't get me wrong.   I have tasted many many delicious kinds of fudge.   The problem is mine isn't delicious.  I have attempted to make fudge about 3 or 4 times since I have been married.   Each time,  It just does not turn out.  I don't know why.    I find most everything else to be easy to bake.  As long as I follow the directions,  it works out.   NOT for fudge though.   I just made fudge last night.   The recipe was simple.  I followed the recipe to a tee.   It looks like fudge.  I actually thought it was gonna turn out this time.   NOPE!!!  It is edible indeed.   But,  it is not creamy and smooth and soft like fudge should be.  It is more thick I guess you could say.  Oh well.   My family just needs to go elsewhere to get their fudge fix  because they aren't getting it from me......

We did it!

We survived camping.   The children had a lot of fun.   They had many more freedoms there than they do at home.   I allowed them to go ride their  bikes around without me being right there.   My daughter was allowed to go up to the bathroom by herself.   They even got the chance to go to the camp store by themselves and buy a candy.   They did a great job.   They were given a ten dollar bill and told they could spend two dollars each.   We told our oldest she should get six dollars back.   They came back to us with some yummy candy and exactly six dollars change.   It was so nice to know that they were/are responsible.
It did rain a lot that week.   We ended up going to my hubby's moms house for  a few hours.   We used her dryer to dry all the things that were wet.    We extended our trip until wednesday but ended up just coming home anyway.   It rained really bad the one night and the next morning when we were going to go back up, I got  extremely sick.   That part was not fun.
We hope to go again soon.   It was fairly inexpensive but very relaxing.   It was so peaceful there.   Well the first night was a little crazy.
I guess that we were impeding on a family of raccoons.    We set up our tent.  It has one large tent and a little pup tent attached to it.   We used the smaller tent to store our food in.   The first night, I was rather nervous.  I get scared out in the woods.  I am afraid of lions, tigers, and bears.  OH MY!!!!    anyway,   I was woken up by a scratching noise on the tent.   I then woke hubby up.   He kicked the tent.   The animal did not run away.   So he got out and with his flashlight tried to scare the animal off.   Here it was a raccoon.    Hubby came back in and we went to sleep.   A few hours later,  I woke up to this crazy sound.   I told hubby again that I thought there was a raccoon outside our tent.   He got out once again.   He used his flashlight.   He was looking around for it.   The raccoon was making crazy sounds.   He would not shut up.   Finally hubby found a baby raccoon in a hole in the tree.   He told me to come out and see what was making all that fuss.    Just a wee tiny thing.   He was very loud and noisy for most of the night.   I finally got back to sleep.   I then woke up to my son saying "mommy, guess what?"   I just saw a mommy raccoon carrying a baby raccoon in her mouth."   After that,   We did not hear the raccoons for the rest of the week.

I found something that I really enjoy.   Rock band the video game.    They have activities up at the campground everynight.   The one night they had this game.   We all went up and had a blast.   They have drums, guitars, and a singer.   So needless to say,  that is now on our wish list.   We did end up picking guitar hero up for our playstation 3.   It is a lot of fun.

Now it is time to go get some work done.   I've had my hot dogs and saurkraut.(which I have been craving) and some energy tea.   High Ho High Ho its off to clean I go.

camping

Well tomorrow we are going to go camping as a family.  This will be the first time as a family and the first time camping for the kiddos.   I hope they do well.   I am kind of nervous for them.  I am not sure how they will do at night knowing they have to sleep in a tent.  Often they are afraid of the dark.   I hope they do okay.  I think the other parts of camping they will enjoy a lot.   Things such as riding bikes, fishing, swimming, and we might even rent a boat for one day.   They also have little activities for the kids here and there.
This is going to be our summer vacation I think.   We hope to go to Washington d.c. in September or some where around there.   We too have already gone on a few small trips this year.  Many more than normal.   We went to splash lagoon.  It is an indoor water park.   That was a lot of fun.   Then we went to Florida for a few days which included a trip to the beach and a trip to Disney World.   That was a lot of fun too.  I wouldn't mind going back to Florida.  Although, It was a long trip.
Today my children and hubby have to go to the chiropractor.   Then my niece and nephew are coming over today.   They will be here until around 11:30.   After that,  hubby has to go to work and I have to go to walmart and get things for camping tomorrow.   I also have to pack up everything tonight.   We cannot check in until 3:00 unless we call and see if there was no one in our spot the night before.   If the camping spot we chose was empty the night before, we are allowed to go up earlier.  I am not sure how much earlier we will get up there though.   My husband is still going to do meals on wheels which will last until about 12:30.   We will probably go up after that.
I hope to get a new battery for my camera.  If not, I will not be able to take any pics.    If I do take pictures, I will post them here when we get back.    We will be back sometime monday.

I got to go now and get my kids ready for the chiropractor.

Baby Bat

Yesterday my husband and I took the kids to a local campsite.    They have fun nature classes for children.   Yesterday the class was about animal prints.   They had a good time.  They made a booklet with 10 different animal prints in it.   Then they learned how to walk like some animals.   Then we went into the woods and looked to see if we could find some animal prints.    The children found  raccoon, deer, and bird prints.   They had a fun time.
Just before the class actually began we got to see a baby bat.  It was sad though.  He fell out of his house.  The forest ranger said that the baby was probably too big for the mommy to pick him up.   So she took him into the woods and put him on a tree.  When she came back she said he perked right up.   She also told the kids that the mom might be able to find him which would be good.
After all that, we decided to take advantage of the lake and go swimming.   That lake is so nice.   We decided that we are gonna go up there sometime this summer for our vacation.   We will take a tent up and camp for one week.   We were going to go to Washington D.C. for our vacation.   We decided to put that off until about September.   That way it should not be too crowded and not too hot.     I think it will be a lot of fun to go camping.   We can take our bikes and fishing tools.   I am looking forward to it.   I would like to go this week.  LOL    That's not going to happen though.     Well I will post some pictures later today.   We have some guest coming over.  I need to hop in the shower.

Yucky water!

Well it is not good that our swimming pool has yucky looking water in it.    We set up our pool a few weeks ago.   IT has been cloudy since the day after they started swimming in it.   We have had a pool for about three years now.   They are the ones that you set up and take down.  IT is one with a metal frame.  We bought it at walmart on sale.

Anyway,   I have not been too good at keeping the water clean and clear.   Right now my water is brownish and cloudy.   We just put a new filter in it.   I know it does not need chlorine.  We tested it and actually the chlorine is a little high.   The ph is just right.   I know that it has dirt and we need to vacuum it.   I also know that my dog and my children drag a lot of mud into it.   Around our pool, has been a lot of mud.  It gets on the kids feet and then they drag it into the pool.   Also my dog loves to get up on the side of the pool and stick his muddy feet into the pool.    I am hoping it clears up very soon.   My kids love to swim.   It is supposed to be very hot here for the next few days.   This is not good timing.  I can't allow them to get into that yucky water, but,  It is sooooo hot out, I would love for them to be able to cool off by swimming.   I had asked hubby to go to walmart and get some pool cleaning stuff.   Hopefully we can get it crystal clear again.

Too much tv

Today we are getting the cable hooked up.   We have not had cable for about 3 1/2 years.   We are all excited about it.  I am happy that we will have the educational shows that I have been wanting.   I just hope we do not watch too much tv.   I know we could all easily get sucked in.   My hubby and I are going to make a schedule I think.   We want to make sure the kids aren't watching cartoons when there are junky cartoons on.  I don't like cartoon network much at all.   I also don't like a lot of the "pre-teen" type shows on nickelodeon.   We are nervous about what "crap" can be put into the kids' heads.   I hope it will work out okay.    It will be a nice change for a while.   If it gets too out of control, we will have it shut off.

In other news,   My niece and nephew are here again today.   They come over quite a bit.   That is okay because they are not here throughout the school year.   My kids love it.  It gives them someone to play with during the day while the neighbor kids are finishing up school.

We went to the lake a few times this week.   One time I went with my brother, dad, my kids, and my niece and nephew.   The very next day we went with hubby.   We swam for a while then they went fishing.  It was very nice.     Hubby has a few extra days off this week.   So it is nice having him at home.

Well I guess that is it for now.   I am patiently waiting for the cable guy to get here.

Visitors

This week has been kinda crazy.  Up and down like a roller coaster.   Our niece and nephew are visiting for two months.   They are not staying at our place the whole time but I try to get them here often so the cousins can play together.   This morning the girls made cookies.   They did a good job.   They quickly got bored though and asked to go swimming.   They are crazy lol.
Yesterday we took the kids to the park.    They had a lot of fun.   My brother and his two kids met up with us.  It was a fun day.   My son surprised me.  He went on a lot of rides he did not go on last year.   Fast ones, ones that go backwards,  and another one that went in the air pretty high.   I was so happy about that.   My hubby and I love big and crazy rides.  My daughter does too.   So he will fit in well with us.   I was beginning to think he wasn't going to like the crazy rides.   He proved to me that he does indeed have a wild side in him.
My house has been quite messy lately.   I am trying to not let it bother me.   We live here.  The kids need to play and have fun.   They can't do that if I am too worried about how my house looks.  I figured if someone doesn't like my messy house,  then they just have to leave.   LOL.
My emotions have been going crazy lately.   Emotional about the littlest things.  I am not quite sure what is going on.   One minute I am happy, the next,  I am crying.    It has been a rough week.   We have a dog and he has been acting up.   I can't let him inside because he will chew everything up.   Also, he runs upstairs, which he knows hes  not supposed to be up there.   Once he gets up there, he pees in my bathroom.  I'm not quite sure why that room.   It's always in the same spot.    Then, if I put him outside unsupervised, he will dig out and escape into our neighbor's yard.  He also  gets the pool toys out and chews them all up.   So it has been very difficult.  I want to give him to someone.   He needs people who will play with him constantly.  He needs lots of room to roam and do whatever he wants.   It is just not working.  I know he is still a puppy.  I just wish he would stop being a puppy already.   He is such a sweet dog really.  He has a wonderful personality.  He would never hurt anything on purpose.  The kids love him to death.  He just ends up in his cage a lot.  I am not sure what else to do.
Anyway, other than that, things are going well.   The kids are loving the weather.   They love not having to do schoolwork.   We are hoping to go on vacation soon.  That is still up in the air though.
Well that was my week.   Hopefully things get better soon.

Good Week

This week has gone well.   We are done with school.   Although,  I did buy them each a summer skills workbook.  They are very nice.   You buy them the grade they are going in to.   So I bought one 1st grade and one 3rd grade book.   My kids don't mind them.   I make them do 2 pages a day.   They can pick which two they want to do.   There is a variety of subjects in these books.    They include  reading, writing, math, science, and more.   I think they are very cool.   It still works their brains a little.   I still do stuff with them throughout the summer but it is mostly unschooling during the summer months.  We will start school up in august.
I had two coupons to go to a local indoor play area.  I took the kids there yesterday.   They each got 10 tokens.   Which they were perfectly happy with that.   Then they got to go in the play area.   We got a pretzel and french fries to share.   The coupon included free drinks.   They played for about 2 hours.   They had to close off the one section of the play are though, due to a child getting a bloody nose.   They had to clean and sanitize it.   When we got there,  the kids saw two of their friends there.    They played a few games together but then the friends had to leave.   It was a fun day though.
Today there is a street fair a block up from my house.   They advertised free food, free games, and free music.   That should be fun for the kids.   It is a church that is sponsoring it.   I am considering letting my kids go to that church for vacation bible school.   I am not sure yet.   I have to talk to my hubby about it and see what he thinks.
I started volunteering at a local children's museum.  I go an help clean up once a week.   I am glad to do it.   That is a very large place.  It would be very difficult for just one person to keep up with.   My kids really enjoy going there.   I think we may make a trip there again soon for the kids to play.   My niece and nephew are now visiting for a month.   They live in a different state with their mother.   They came home with their grandmother to visit their dad and his side of the family.  Which is US!!!!   My kids are excited to have them back.   I think I will take all four of them to the museum some day if I can.
Well I must finish cleaning the house and then get a shower to clean myself.   Then we are off to have a day of fun at the street fair.   Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

Home made rod

Yesterday we went fishing again.    My hubby has been working alot and one of his favorite things to do on his off time is fishing.   So in order for us to enjoy time as a family,   We decided to pick up the hobby together.     My daughter made her own fishing rod yesterday.    She took a stick and some fishing line and made a home made fishing rod.   She was very proud of herself.   On top of all that,   She caught two fish with it.   Here are her pictures

These ones are the pics from the arts festival.   The first one was my daughter helping the lady do a juggling act.  The second is of the cute duckies in the pond.    The next two are of my kids and the sandwich props they made.

These two are my kiddos trying to hula hoop.   This is from the kids day America.

That is it for now.

kid's day america

This was a pretty fun event.   We went there on Saturday.     They had some music playing and an area where the kids could hula hoop.    They had many booths set up.   At one booth they had a yummy granola snack the children could make.    There were plenty of free prize drawings.  We weren't the lucky winners of any of those though.   They also had screenings for backs, teeth, and some other things as well.   The kids got a coupon for food.   Each child got to have a drink box, a piece of pizza or a hotdog, a cookie, and a bag of popcorn.  Not too bad.  I had to buy mine but it was only $1.   The kids had a lot of fun.  They had different tables where they could make things such as a hat,  keychain, necklace, etc.   There were clowns who made balloon figures.   Outside they had a firetruck, ambulance, a boat, some old cars, and a car seat safety check.   I found this very useful.   I was always curious as to what the "true" carseat law was.  I have heard many things such as they had to be 80 pounds,  they had to be 4'9, and they had to be 8 years old.  So I asked someone what the law was for when my child was allowed out of the carseat.   They told me the law was 8 years old but they also recommend that they be 4'9.  I am glad I got that cleared up.     All in all,  It was a fun day.  Another plus,   it was FREE!!

Yard Sales

Today my children and I went to a few yard sales.   If you look past the two over priced toys I bought my children,  I got some really good deals.  I do have to say that most of the time when I go to yard sales, my main point is just to find some cheap fun toys for my children.   Then if I happen to find a new table cloth or something like that for me,  Great!!!!   Well Today we went to a few and got some small toys which weren't too badly priced.  Then we come to the last yard sale.   My son found a hotwheels toy.  He loves those toys.  He has quite a collection.  Okay you can get it I said.   "How much is it?"   It was $4.  Wow.  A little steep but ok.    Then my daughter finds a pixel chix toy.   Yeah I told her she could get it.   That would cost me $8.  Those are expensive yard sale toys.  Oh well.  They are having fun with them.   At that same yard sale I found a lot of books I can use for school.   I am happy about that.  I spent $13 on these books.  I am okay with that.
Here are the list of books I found.
1.  The Addition book
2.  Hershey Kisses Addition book
3.  Rocks and minerals
4. Piece=part=portion
5. Usborne Medieval world
6.Hieroglyphs
7. Totally amazing night animals
8. Totally amazing natural disasters
9. Backyard detective
10. 2500 fascinating facts
11. Earth, sea and sky
12. Habitat is where it's at
13.Mr. Grumpy
14.the Prince of egypt
15. Weather vanes reading book
16. William shakespeare.

So I was very happy I found these.   They will go great with our studies.   I did have one little problem though with that yard sale.   I started to leave when I pulled my change out of my pocket.  I counted it and realized that they did not give me enough change back.   That stinks really bad.  I was short $10.  But I knew if I went back they would not believe me.  Oh well.  I went back anyway.  I knew I was right.   It didn't matter if they thought I was lying or not because I don't know them.    I most likely will never see them again.   Even if I do,  I doubt they will remember me or I will remember them.   So I went back,  I got a few bad looks but I also got my $10 back.   Thank Goodness.

children's day at local art festival

Today I took my two children to the arts festival.    We had two classes to attend.   the first one was called acting accordionly.  It was a lady who played her accordion.   She also did some magic tricks.   It was kind of cute.   Although,  I did find it boring.    The kids enjoyed it.   That's what counts the most.    Then we went to create a prop.   It talked about making props for theater and such.   They showed us different props and explained them a little bit.   Then the children got to make their own prop.   It was a sandwich made of cloth and styrofoam.    My children enjoyed making that.    So it was not too bad.
Tomorrow we are going to an event called  kids day America.   They have some fun stuff for the kids but the main point of it is to be healthy.   They have free dental, spinal, and more screenings for the children.   I think I will take advantage of that and check it out.  Plus,  it gets us out of the house for a while.  Too, it is a free event.   We really like those.
On another note,  It took $67.00 to fill up my tank today.   It wasn't even empty when I went to fill it up.   That is a whole lot of money.   Kind of a bummer.    Makes it hard especially for a one income family.   Still I have faith in God that this is how he wants us.   He wants me to stay home with my children and raise them up to be good men and women.   My husband feels strongly about this as well.   I am very appreciative.   I just hope I hold up my end of the deal.     I know that when we are faithful,  God will provide.  He always has.

Yesterday

Yesterday was a wonderful day.   My husband had off work so we took advantage of it.   We went fishing as a family.   We first went to Walmart and stocked up on some goodies for our picnic.   We wanted to eat lunch at the lake.    So we got to the Lake around 12pm and Stayed until about 430 pm.   It was wonderful.   We had the two ponds by ourselves for most of the day.   My children would hop around the ponds and the lake to find the next victim who was hungry for a worm.   My children had a lot of success.   They caught many, many little fish.   We did not keep any of them.   We don't normally do that.   We fish because it is fun and relaxing.   It was so peaceful.   My children were amazing.   This was a nice reminder to me.   Sometimes we get so caught up on the daily things that go  on that we often forget how good things really are.   It really made me realize how good my children really are.   I was blessed with two very cool kiddos.   They were helping each other out and they even laid down together in the grass and relaxed for a while.   They are normally friendly to each other but sometimes not.   I found my self dwelling on the negative and not really appreciating them truly.   This opened my eyes.
So my hubby caught a bass.   He was about 14 inches long.    My son and daughter wanted a try at catching a bass.   My hubby helped my son catch one.   They were reeling it in but then he got away.   It was nice though just to see my sons face knowing that he had a really big bass on his line.   The fish was flopping in and out of the water so we got to see it a little, but then he did get away.   So then hubby decide he would let my daughter give it a try.   Again the same thing happened.    They got the fish.  she started to reel it in.   The fish flipped out of the water a few times.   But then,  it too got away.   So my children did not want to leave until they actually got to see the bass they caught.   But we had to leave.   That's okay though because that leaves them something to look forward to the next time we go fishing.
pictures coming soon.....

Fishing Photos!!!

Here are some photos from a fishing trip with Dad.   My kids have really picked up on this hobby.   They really enjoy it.   The last few times they went, they were very sad to have to leave.   I am glad they enjoy something that their daddy also loves.   I enjoy watching them and the memories that they make.

Coming to a close

Our school year is coming to a close.   For the last month or so we have been doing minimal work.   We are pretty much done with everything that was needing to be done.   I am just making my kiddos do some reading, writing, and math until the end of may.   After that we will officially be done until the end of august.

I am still working on my son and his reading.   I am doing the book,  teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons, with him.   I bought the book late, so we still have to continue that one.   I started out with hooked on phonics and that method didn't work for him.   I tried just doing some online games and stuff with him, which helped but still not enough.   So I bought that book and he is doing well.   I want to finish that book up before he starts first grade.  I am sure I will get it done by then.   He seems to have picked up on it very well.  They say that by the end of the book your child should be reading on a second grade level.   I can believe it.

We plan on going to Washington d.c. in June.   This is gonna be our summer vacation and also a field trip.  My kids are excited to see the space museum and the Washington monument.   I haven't been there in a long time.  I think I was in sixth grade when I went.   So that will be fun.  I am looking forward to the trip.   We are gonna drive down.   At least it's not a 17 hour drive like the trip to Florida.

Alot going on.

We have done a lot of things in the past few weeks.   Last weekend I took my children to our local college campus.   They were celebrating the week of the young child.   There were a lot of things for the children to do.   We sat through a magic show and a story telling.   We also had the opportunity to do several crafts and even get fingerprinted.   The kids had a wonderful time.  I might post some photos later.

On April 28th we left to go to florida.   It took us about 17 hours to get there.   I am sure that some of you might have heard about the healing revival that is taking place in Lakeland, Florida.   My hubby and I packed up the kiddos and headed down there to witnesses the miracles taking place.   We are a big fan of Todd Bentley.   On thursday,  we took the children to Disney world, the magic kingdom.   We only had one day so we figured that would be the most exciting for our children.   They had a blast.   It was wonderful.   Also while in Florida, we went to clearwater beach for a few hours.  My children love the beach.  I do too.   So then thursday evening we left to come back home.   It took a little longer this time because my husband was just exhausted.   He did most of the driving.   We got home on friday afternoon.   Again,  if I get the chance, I will post photos.
On Saturday,  My mom took me to a cooking show from taste of homes.   It was very fun.   We got to taste a lot of yummy foods.   We entered many contests.   Although we did not win any.   It was still fun.   We watched the lady from taste of homes make about 7 different recipes.   Most of them looked yummy.  I didnt care for the one that had tomatoes in it.   I do not like cooked tomatoes.  Anyway,  the day was fun.  I bought a cookbook for my mom for mother's day.    We got to come home with a few goodies and some new recipes to thrill our families with!
So that is about it for now.   Hubby has been having fun taking our kiddos out fishing when he has some free time.   They both caught a couple of small fish so far.    I will update more later.

A little break

My husband has been doing a lot of things with the children lately.   He has been very helpful.   I am so appreciative.  Today he took the children out fishing.   They did not have too much luck.   He brought the kids home and they were all in the back yard looking for worms.  It was the cutest sight.  I wanted to take a picture but I could not find my camera.   They got a bucket full of worms.   Now they are out fishing again.
I have been enjoying my breaks that hubby has allowed me to have.   I have been really interested in painting lately.   My daughter is in an art class and has also sparked my interest.   I have always loved doing art type things.   My creativity is lacking though.  I remember an art class in tenth grade.   I loved it.   I really enjoyed myself and felt rather accomplished with all the pictures I had created.   I am not the best of drawer but when it comes to abstract art,   I am in love.   I hope to become a better artist.  I would love to sit down and draw people, animals, flowers, etc.    I have only just begun though.
School work for this year is coming to an end.   My children have done very well.   I am just doing some reading, writing, and math with the children.   I want to continue writing because they could always improve in that area.   I am still teaching my son to read.   He has come a long way.    My daughter is just reviewing 2 and 3 digit addition.  It is pretty easy for her.  They are excited to be done for a little while.   My daughter really wants to go swimming.
My kids also accomplished some things in Karate.   They had another test a few weeks ago.   My son is now a blue stripe.   My daughter is a green stripe.   She is a little behind my son because she started a few weeks later due to soccer still being in session.   They have star testing tomorrow.   They get a star if they can complete one of the tasks.   Some of the tasks include  hanging from a bar for 15 seconds without wiggling,  holding your legs straight out with no moving for 30 seconds,  jump rope so many times ,  walk across a balance beam without falling.    They are fun to watch.
Well  Today was a beautiful day.     My hubby is a wonderful man,   And now I am off to do some more painting.     Have a lovely day!!!

It Has been a while

I haven't been on here in a while.   We have been doing lots of things lately.   The kids and I have been making several easter crafts.   I have taken pictures for you to enjoy.   They had a lot of fun doing these.

This one is a picture of the easter egg buckets we made.  We got to use them today to hold the eggs while on an easter egg hunt.  They got lots of compliments

The next craft we did was a yummy one.   The kids really loved this one.

Tonight we made resurrection easter cookies.   The children enjoyed making the cookies and learning about the true meaning of easter.
Well that is it for now.   Hope you enjoyed the pictures.
