This Life We've Been Given

Had to Share This!

As I was putting my 6 year old daughter to bed tonight she told me she sometimes wonders if she is a primordial dwarf (I'll explain in a minute about that). I asked her why she thought that. She said that sometimes when her father and I are in our room talking that she wonders if we are saying "Honey, we should tell her that she is a primordial dwarf" (only she said 'dorf' instead of dwarf :) or "We should tell her that she is really 18 even though we only put 6 candles on her cake" (because of how PDs look much younger than they are). You can imagine how hard it was to keep from bursting into laughter. I explained to her that she was NOT a dwarf of any sort. I also asked her didn't she think she would remember living more than six years if she was really eighteen? She said she guessed that she would.

All this comes from watching the TLC show "The Smallest People in the World" where they show several children who are primordial dwarfs. This is the most extreme case of dwarfism there is. They look like they are about 2-5 years old depending on how extreme it is.

Anyway, I really love the way children's minds work. They definitely keep you entertained ;)

The Love of a Child

On the mornings that I am not up and out of bed before the girls, my 5yo daughter will come in the room and get in bed with me. She snuggles up close and we say the usual "Good morning" and "How did you sleep?" etc. Of course we say I love you and smile sweetly at each other.

One morning last week after our usual conversation she said "Mom, I love you more than cats and princess stuff." Now THAT is probably the height of a 5yo girl's love  At least my 5yo. She then went on to assure me that she loves Jesus even more

I am going to miss these times when she gets older and the way we show and speak our love changes somewhat. Or maybe they never really get too old for that kind of love, I know I don't.

Funny Things Kids Say

I'm going to post some of the funny things my kids have said or done. I had posted these on another blog so I will just copy them here.

My 5yo dd (then age 4) often likes to tell us her "dreams". The reason I put that in quotes is because I think 99% of the time these dreams are just from her imagination, so technically I guess they would be DAYdreams.

Her latest one was this: She dreamed I had a baby and it was a boy. We named him VICTORIA (!). I asked her why we named him that and she said, "Because we didn't know he was a boy." I said, "When did we find out he was a boy?" She said, "Oh, when he was about two or three." And I asked her if we had put him in dresses all that time and she said yes. Then I asked her how we found out he was a boy and she said, "Someone told us." Image Image

You might have had to be here and see her face for it to be truly funny. But, she cracks us up all the time. Image

I had to post another cute thing my 5yo said. When I went into their room to tell them goodnight, I picked her up and hugged her and exclaimed "Oh Lord, bless this little one!" She squeezed my neck and said "Oh Lord, bless this big one!" Image

I also remembered some things that 9yo dd has said in the past that we found cute. One day the phone rang and the answering machine picked up. She came to tell me that someone from the "hounty" jail had called. Image

One time we were sitting in the truck in Kroger's parking lot. A security officer walked by and my 9yo asked me why they let girls be "social security officers". Image

When my 9yo was 4yo, she was talking to her PaPa and said "I'm just joking, you thought I was for realling?"

Okay, that's all for now

Saving Money on Grocery Shopping

I am always looking for ways to save money on groceries. I am also always looking for ways to SIMPLIFY grocery shopping.

To me, the simplest way is to just go through the store and throw whatever looks good into the basket , but obviously that makes no sense money-wise or for making sure I have stuff on hand for meals.

I am working on a master list right now, and a master menu. I will post them later when I have it figured out.

But, I have come across a few sites that might help to save money on grocery shopping. Here they are:

http://www.thegrocerygame.com/

Maybe these can help someone.

First Entry

Hmm... my first entry on this new blog. I never know what to say on a first entry. So, usually I end up rambling, but that's why people read blogs right? To read other people's ramblings

We have just started a new school year. We have been pretty relaxed in our homeschooling thus far, but this year I wanted things to be a little more structured.

My 9yo daughter is doing Easy Grammar 3/4, Spelling Power, Calculadders, and will begin CLE Math when we receive it in the mail.

My 5yo daughter is doing Phonics Pathways and www.starfall.com for phonics. I also printed her some ABC pages off the internet to practice writing. Math is kind of just everyday for now.

Our first goal is to get them reading, then we move on to other subjects. We figure if they can read they can learn almost anything, right?

We also read LOTS of books. I think reading lots of good books is the best education you can give your children. I will make a book list in another post.

We have been reading "The Winged Watchman" by Hilda Van Stockum and it is great. It gives another view of WWII that I never really thought of. It is told through the eyes of a young Dutch (non-Jewish) boy whose father operates a windmill in Nazi occupied Holland. It is an excellent book for all ages, but it is careful to not be TOO specific about some of the horrors that went on, so even the youngest of readers can listen without fear of them having nightmares. The book has a way of warming you and inspiring you even in the midst of such hard times.

Well, I can't think of much more to write at the moment. I do want to add some funny things my children have said and done soon. I love reading those kinds of things

Till next time, God Bless!
