Hmm... my first entry on this new blog. I never know what to say on a first entry. So, usually I end up rambling, but that's why people read blogs right? To read other people's ramblings
We have just started a new school year. We have been pretty relaxed in our homeschooling thus far, but this year I wanted things to be a little more structured.
My 9yo daughter is doing Easy Grammar 3/4, Spelling Power, Calculadders, and will begin CLE Math when we receive it in the mail.
My 5yo daughter is doing Phonics Pathways and www.starfall.com for phonics. I also printed her some ABC pages off the internet to practice writing. Math is kind of just everyday for now.
Our first goal is to get them reading, then we move on to other subjects. We figure if they can read they can learn almost anything, right?
We also read LOTS of books. I think reading lots of good books is the best education you can give your children. I will make a book list in another post.
We have been reading "The Winged Watchman" by Hilda Van Stockum and it is great. It gives another view of WWII that I never really thought of. It is told through the eyes of a young Dutch (non-Jewish) boy whose father operates a windmill in Nazi occupied Holland. It is an excellent book for all ages, but it is careful to not be TOO specific about some of the horrors that went on, so even the youngest of readers can listen without fear of them having nightmares. The book has a way of warming you and inspiring you even in the midst of such hard times.
Well, I can't think of much more to write at the moment. I do want to add some funny things my children have said and done soon. I love reading those kinds of things
Till next time, God Bless! |
