I was listening recently to an MP3 by Doug Phillips entitled: Defending the Fatherless. I was struck by the following verses in Deuteronomy 24:
19 When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. 21 When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow.
In my mind, I made a parallel to my previous post on Hospitality and leftovers or making extra. Now, my family often thrives on leftovers. My kids are not really "sandwich people," so they often reheat the previous night's dinner for lunch. And at least once a week it's "icebox clean out."
But...
What if we made a parallel to not going a second time over your fields, your branches or your vines?
Hmm....
Blessings
