Cookies and The Fair
J is currently working on the cookies he will be entering in to the county fair later this afternoon. He's has gotten so good at baking cookies that I'm only needed for consultation and taking hot sheet pans out of the oven.
He's making frosted sugar cookies and honey chocolate chip cookies. The sugar cookies are in the shapes of footballs, trophies, and football helmets. He's decided to go with the colors of the high school here in town since the fair is held just down the street. I'll take pictures of him with his cookies and post them when I know how he placed in his division.
The honey chocolate chip cookies are soft, moist, and cake-like. They have been popular at all the events he's taken them to. He found this recipe on his own. It's in my Culinary Arts Institute Encyclopedic Cookbook. I can't believe I have missed this wonderful recipe in all the years I've used my mom's cookbook and now my own.
J has been watching the Food Network Challenges on T.V. He has decided that he admires the work of pastry chefs, but is not interested in that type of work. He would like to be a chef, own a family restaurant with his cousin, and make wedding and other special occasion cakes for people.
Well I'm off to take photos.
