My Boy Is Growing Up
J just completed his first errand unaccompanied. I knew the day was coming. I've been preparing him and I for today, but it is still a milestone. J walked to the Town Hall to deliver our rent check and he even had to give our landlady a message from his dad. I sent him with my cell phone, after making sure he knew how to use it.
I thought about calling Nancy to let her know he was coming, but I decided not to. He made the walk easily and was back sooner than I thought he would be. When I asked him how it went, he was very casual and confident.
I know we have completed that walk many times in the past 9 years, so it shouldn't be a big deal. It just strikes me how grown up he's becoming. He'll be 10 years old next month and the apron strings are being slowly cut. I'm proud of him.
