Happily Knitting
I'm finding more reasons to enjoy being at home more. The best reason is the additional time I have with the boys. I have taken up the habit of knitting while they are doing their independent school work and during the times when they need verbal instruction only. They enjoy having me nearby and don't mind sharing the space around me with yarn.
I must admit that I have become quite addicted to knitting. It will be 2 years in April since I started knitting. I feel like I now have time to start venturing beyond learning the basics. I still haven't made anything with cables, but I have played with them and read plenty. I think I'll try a hat or other small project soon.
I have been reading excerpts of Elizabeth Zimmerman's books and reading reviews. I have become quite fascinated with what I have read and heard. I like her style. In the small passages I've read I've felt like an old friend was talking to me. I told my DH her name and requested her books in the future. With money being watched more closely, I'm not going to just purchase her books.
I'm currently working on several projects, including my 2 forever projects which I hope to finish within the year. Those 2 projects are the blanket shawl for my mom and the 2 twin-size bedspreads I'm making for the boys. I'm forever grateful for the help my mother-in-law is providing with the bedspreads. Without her help they would never be finished. My other projects are a sweater for myself and baby gifts for friends and co-workers of relatives. The sweater is a bit selfish, but the yarn was purchased with a gift certificate with specific instructions to only use for myself. The yarn is swan colored Cotlin from Knit Picks. I'm making the cover sweater from Fitted Knits. I did make the key-hole at the shoulder smaller and am considering making the side vents one piece so I can continue in the round. If I continue in the round I'll sew buttons on for decoration.
I am making future plans for sweaters for the boys and DH. Soon I will revisit making the Fantasy Story animals and people for the boys. The baby gifts are quick knits and are giving me much satisfaction at the moment.
One of my favorite things about knitting is I can be productive while resting and spending time with my family. I also like to use the time for prayer and devotion.
