Nov. 22, 2005 - Starting Over
Not new to blogging, but new to this blog.
Not new to homeschooling, but starting a new journey.
My sons are 18 and 20. We brought a sweet daughter home from Korea about 4 1/2 years ago, so while I'm graduating my youngest son, I'm just starting the homeschool journey with our daughter!
It seems there are big differences in the way we'll be educating our daughter, than we did our sons. Indeed even the boys learning styles were extremely different. What worked for one simply didn't work for the other.
For example, my oldest wanted to see and do... everything. If he saw a workbook, he went into a coma-like state. My younger son was an eager workbook student. Just give him a blank to fill in and he was plum giddy!
My daughter came with a few challenges. She has Apraxia of Speech, fine and gross motor delays and some visual perception issues. So I get to learn how to teach all over again.
Somedays, this is daunting. I look at her and wonder how could I ever provide her with what she needs? Other days I look at her and think, how could I ever trust her with anyone else?
One this is certain, God placed her in our care. I have to believe He knew exactly what she needed and handpicked the family, just for her. So, I embrace the challenge and even thank God for it! I'm glad I found a place to share the journey.
