We had a free day today, to celebrate all the work we have accomplished this week. I had planned to take the Lambies to the park this morning, but it was too darned hot! We rolled out of the house at 8:15, but it was already 87 degrees (on it's way to about 106 today), and I don't like the heat, so we went instead to visit Daddy at his shop.
We got to see his new Nerf gun that he modified. He did something to it that allows it to shoot hard enough to dent soda cans! The children now want him to "fix" theirs! They had a good time plinking the cans for a while. No one plinked anyone else either, thankfully!
After that visit, we went to a local McDonald's. We haven't been to a McD's for probably a year! I have overcome my attraction to french fries and fast food altogether. I now abhor even the smell of it! But they do have an indoor playground with AC! We bought a drink to "pay for" the privledge of using their space, and played an hour or so. Then I bought the children fruit and yogurt parfaits because they hadn't asked for a thing the whole time we were there! The children enjoyed them!
However, Polly is complaining now that she feels sick...she's laying on the couch while the others are swimming. BabyJ will have dirty diapers the rest of the day from the yogurt, but I knew that! Adding daily kefir and raw milk to his diet has helped his lactose intolerence greatly! He can now eat pasturized dairy with much less discomfort, though he still feels the effects. Those good bacteria and enzymes are effective!
There were a few others at the playground. One lady, a grandmother who didn't look old enough to be a grandmother, had her 5yo grandson with her. She struck up a conversation with the usual question "Are they all yours?!" When I said yes, she just looked and looked at the children. Then she shook her head. We visited a little and then she asked me what my morning looks like, trying to get all those children ready for school. I told her about our easy non-stressful mornings (due to homeschooling), and she asked a question I had never heard before. She said, "You don't let them do their schoolwork in pajamas do you?" with a wrinkled up forehead and a frown on her face. I almost laughed, because SO WHAT IF I DO!! Can they NOT learn in their pajamas? I just smiled and said, "Usually not". I explained things a little more to her, since she was willing to not just listen, but HEAR.
we're in AZ outside of Phoenix where it hit 113 this week! We're about 15 degrees or more over our normal temps for this time of year - so I know what it's like when the kids can't just go play outside like the rest of the year. It sounds like you've trained your children in the way they should go (they didn't ask for anything at McD's). My kids enjoy just walking around the mall sometimes. They know we aren't there to buy - just to look - and it gives them a chance to look around, ask questions in the science toy store, and get one on one demonstrations from kiosks and salespeople that just fascinate them. Have a great weekend.
Goodness, if that were the only concern of modern parents - to PJ or not to PJ. HA !! We do this on (rare) SPECIAL occassions, and occassionally when we are well enough to do SOME school (then take a nap or rest again) after being ill for a few days.
God Bless.
