It's Wednesday, so that's "Works For Me Wednesday" time! This week's edition is a Backward theme. We are to ask a question for Bloggityville to answer.
My question: How often do you change sheets?
Are you a "once a month"er or a "once a week"er? An "every three days" or a "when I can't stand the stink any more"er?
We are every other week-ers. I find I have too much laundry with just clothes to make it every week. I have seven beds to do, for goodness sake!
I have taught my Lambies to make their beds themselves. The eldest children can remove the mattresses and get the pads and sheets on just fine. The younger children are able to strip the beds without ripping pads with little supervision. So my responsibility is only the actual washing. But even with a front loading machine that takes two days washing to get the all the sheets and pads through.
We have six kids, and like you, seven beds to make.
I do the kids' sheets once every two weeks at least, more if necessary. The difference is that I only wash the pad if soiled (bedwetting or sick during the night). If I have extra time and I realize it has been awhile, I throw a pad or two in the wash. Otherwise, I think of the pad as part of the bed and not part of the sheets.
Pads take up so much room in the washer and dryer. I'd consider once-a-month washing for those.
My kids don't like sleeping under a comforter, so they sleep on top of it and cover up with a pile of fleece blankets, which they fold and set at the foot of their beds each day.
I wash the blankets about once a month, and the comforter at the beginning of each season (Fall, Winter, etc.) - unless of course they get sick or one of the little ones have an 'accident.'
My children have a laundry day once a week. They are required to wash their sheets on that day also. I do wash my two younger boys' things. They strip their beds and then they remake them. Maybe not as perfectly as I would, but I am happy they are doing it. With age, hopefully it will get neater. Each daughter is assigned a day and then the boys are assigned with mine. That has worked for about two years now. I can't wait till the boys get older!!!
We have 7 children and I am so with you on this. Unless someone has been sick it's every other week. I try to wash their pillow cases when I do their clothes, however.
This means, though, that they have to go to bed with at least clean feet ( a pet peave of mine). So maybe it would be easier just to wash the sheets more often. I don't know.
We gave up the "top sheet" a long time ago because they just get strewn all over and are another sheet to wash.
It seems like we have a lot in common. I look forward to reading more of your blog!

What kind of Bissel do you have? We always rent the big one but have been considering buying our own. Just don't want to spend the money on one that won't do the job well, if you know what I mean.
I change my sheets once a week. The kids, well that's a different story. There's no set schedule for them. I have a bedwetter so that causes the sheets in one room to get washed frequently. :)
So I have no suggestions. You're doing much better then me! :)
The other day you left a comment on my blog about what handicraft my son was doing while we were reading about Handel. He was doing a latch hook rug.
You also said you listen to classical music but haven't done anything else besides. I think that's wonderful. Just hearing the music, it will get into your children's blood and they'll be able to appreciate it. Have you ever been to an actual concert? I have a few times and oh, is it ever lovely. So much better live than on CD!
I'm the blessed wife of My Honey of 14 years, and Momma to eight wonderful Lambies aged 13 and under. We live in Central CA, and use Ambleside Online for our curriculum. I'd love to meet you , so browse a while and feel free to leave a comment!
