• Jun. 30, 2008 - Making Cat Food

Posted in Family Life
I have been making cat food lately.  Someone asked me how I do it, so here is a quick tutorial.

First, roast a chicken or two.  Pick off the meat and save the bones.  Use the meat for a meal. Make chicken broth with the chicken carcass.  I have full instructions how to do this here.  When the broth is strained you are left with a strainer filled with this:

Now put all that, plus extra meat, cooked rice, appropriate leftovers, etc if you wish, and put it in your blender with some liquid.  You can use broth, water or milk.  Blend it all into paste and serve as wet food.

Store extra in the refrigerator for up to two weeks!  My cats love it, and it's so much better for them than store bought 'food'.

You let your cats eat on the carpet?!? :o

LOL! I'm sure they're neater than my kids!

Good tutorial btw. I always felt like you should be able to so *something* w/ all that junk left after picking off the meat. Now I know ;)

Ha! I wondering if someone would mention that! Truthfully, the cat wasn't really hungry. He wouldn't follow the bowl into the kitchen where he normally eats. I *gulp* staged the picture by getting my son to put the cats nose into the bowl and quickly moving out of the picture!

He really does 'meowl' every morning for his wet food, though.

My cats would love this (but I probably won't take the time LOL).

Our cat just had kitties... she is little and young herself -- so I feel sorry for her. Normally she is an outdoor cat -- fend for herself, eat the dog's food plus the mice she catches...

But I'm a mother -- I've never had 4 at once -- but Oh... the poor baby... I think I'll make her some home made cat food -- just for her.

Don't tell my husband -- he'll call me a sissy. LOL Ü
