Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! Truth be told...we didn't even know each state had a preamble. Thank you so much for educating us on this.

Wonderful point you made! I'd like to know who exactly the "we" is that Obama speaks of. (Oh... probably his administration.) Ugh.

What, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, etc. don't believe in God, or a supreme ruler of the universe? Those state constitutions that you've quoted acknowledge the existence of a supreme being, but nowhere do they (or the U.S. Constitution, for that matter) suggest that Christianity is part of what it means to be a citizen.

The "we" the President referred to includes all of us, including those of us who don't believe in a deity at all. Citizenship in this country is not tied to any standard of religious belief, and is instead open to all who accept the concept of individual liberty and the associated ideas related to the role of government. Even George Washington, on numerous occasions, stated the idea that members of different religious faiths had full access to citizenship in the United States.

• Aug. 23, 2009 - We ARE a CHRISTain nation!

Mr. or Ms. no name.

Our founding fathers came to America for their CHRISTain faith. Our nation was based upon God from the very beginning of its discovery. It is written in our goverment public schools childrens books that people came here to freely worship GOD! It is in our goverment foundation. Our Constititution, Our America songs, (O'Beautiful), and in the many basis of the laws our land. To not acknowledge this, is to say we are a land of Heathens that founded this country. Which is not true in the like-wise whatsoever.

I'm ashamed of the choice of words that our President has chosen to represent all the people of America. I would hope he will not show that he is ashamed of being a proclaimed Christian and stand up proud of his faith in God. Today he has not spoken for me!

For me and my house we shall serve the Lord.!!!!!

And proclaim it gladly!!!

I think the founding fathers plan for our country was to be founded upon Christian beliefs, but I do not think that we currently live in a Christian nation.
I should say that I came to know Christ two and a half years ago, and I do not have a problem with God's Word or the fact that our country's laws are loosely based on God's laws, but I do not think that we live in a Christian nation. Sadly, I think President Obama was correct with the idea that this is not a Christian nation.
Now, I should note that what he said was, "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation..." and I think people generally believe that this is a Christian country, but when you look at what many American people who call themselves Christians believe, you see something RADICALLY DIFFERENT from what God tells us in His Word.
The statistics say something like 80% of Americans claim to be Christians, and one would think, "Well if 80% ARE Christians, then the US is a Christian country." The problem here is we believe that if someone claims to be a Christian, they are a Christian. Jesus speaks about this in Matthew 7:21-23.

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'"

These people claim Jesus as Lord, and they honestly believe that by their works (I think you could insert any other false gospel here) they are saved. I can speak to this because I used to believe a similar false gospel.
I believed that Jesus existed, and that he could save me, and thought I was saved because of this knowledge. What is missing here is repentance. I thought I could live for myself and do only my own will for my life until God broke me and caused me turn away (repent) from living for myself, and live for Him and surrender to His will.

21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven."

So, to sum this up, I think that typical American Christianity is not Christianity at all. I argue that a minority of Americans are Christians (who have repented and believe the Gospel, and are new creations because of it). I therefore think that America is not truly a Christian nation.

So, while we do consider ourselves a Christian nation, we are not truly a Christian nation.

It is my sincere hope that you all would realize that you can know God and spend an eternity with Him through faith in Christ.

Very wise, J. We are from from where our Founders would have wanted. Many will be left at the Rapture, who think themselves Christians. Professing "Christians" who have no idea who Christ is are one of the most dangerous cults, according to an article I have read recently: http://www.lamblion.us/2009/08/on-most-dangerous-cult.html
