• Sep. 9, 2009 - Remembering John Joseph Murray

John Joseph Murray, known as Jack to his family, was just six days away from his 33rd birthday on September 11th.  He had recently became a father. His beautiful daughter Alyson Rose was just five months old.

He spent the last precious moments with his wife, Rory, speaking words of love and tender thoughts.  Rory and Alyson were leaving on a trip to San Fransisco and the family thought they would be separated for a week. Of course, they had no way of knowing what would happen that morning.

John went to his office in Tower One, 104th floor at Cantor Fitzgerald.  Rory and Alyson boarded their plane.  They wouldn't see another again.

Rory's plane never left the ground, since shortly afterward, the first plane hit.

John's brother, Michael, also worked at Cantor Fitzgerald, until a few days before 9-11.  Days before, he had changed jobs and was working in Tower 2. When the first plane struck, he raced down the stairs, knowing his brother was in Tower 1.  He was halfway down when the second plane struck his building.  His concern for his brother had saved his life.

John had begun a foundation devoted to raising money for Scleroderma research in 1997. His sister, Cathy, suffers from the condition. Please visit his foundation. http://www.johnjmurrayfoundation.org/  A scholarship has also been made in his memory.

"John had a certain zest for life," his wife told a newspaper soon after 9-11, "living each day to the fullest and seldom getting caught up in the small stuff."

"Aly is my saving grace," said Rory, "In her, all of us still have a part of John."

"He didn’t take life for granted,” said his father. “He probably lived more in his 32 years than most people live in 100.”

As we remember the tragedy of September 11th, let's remember the people who were killed and the families left behind.   Let's resist the growing movement to sanitize the attack and make it simply a day of service.  Let's remember the pledge we all made, "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!"

• Apr. 3, 2009 - Detained over CASH!

Here's a disturbing video of a young man traveling through Missouri (home of the militia memo) who was detained and harassed because he was carrying cash.  He refused to answer the un-Constitutional questions and that did not make the TSA agents very happy.

Please remember your Constitutional rights as you travel around this great country of ours. Don't give your freedom and submit to "Show me your papers" mentality!

• Mar. 16, 2009 - How to Call The Police When You're Old

I "stole" this from my friend Vicki.

HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD

George Phillips of Meridian , Mississippi was going up to bed, when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?"

He said "No."
Then they said "All patrols were busy. You should lock your doors and an officer will be along when one is available."

George said, "Okay" He hung up the phone and counted to 30.
Then he phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." and hung up.

Within five minutes, six Police Cars, a SWAT Team, a Helicopter, two Fire Trucks, a Paramedic, and an Ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence, and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George, "I thought you said that you shot them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Don't mess with old people!

• Feb. 24, 2009 - Explaining the Stimulus

I found this over at "Preparing For Tyranny".

NOW, IT'S PERFECTLY CLEAR TO ME!

Shortly after class, an economics student approaches his economics professor and says, "I don't understand this stimulus bill. Can you explain it to me?"

The professor replied, "I don't have any time to explain it at my office, but if you come over to my house on Saturday and help me with my weekend project, I'll be glad to explain it to you." The student agreed.

At the agreed-upon time, the student showed up at the professor's house. The professor stated that the weekend project involved his backyard pool.

They both went out back to the pool, and the professor handed the student a bucket. Demonstrating with his own bucket, the professor said, "First, go over to the deep end, and fill your bucket with as much water as you can." The student did as he was instructed.

The professor then continued, "Follow me over to the shallow end, and then dump all the water from your bucket into it." The student was naturally confused, but did as he was told.

The professor then explained they were going to do this many more times, and began walking back to the deep end of the pool.

The confused student asked, "Excuse me, but why are we doing this?"

The professor matter-of-factly stated that he was trying to make the shallow end much deeper.

The student didn't think the economics professor was serious, but figured that he would find out the real story soon enough.

However, after the 6th trip between the shallow end and the deep end, the student began to become worried that his economics professor had gone mad. The student finally replied, "All we're doing is wasting time and effort. Even worse, when this process is all over, everything will be at the same level it was before, so all you'll really have accomplished is the loss of what could have been truly productive action!"

The professor put down his bucket and replied with a smile, "Congratulations. You now understand the stimulus bill."

• Feb. 14, 2009 - CPSIA- Illegal Books

The Headmistress at the Common Room and others have been highlighting books that are now illegal to buy, sell and trade due to the insane CPSIA law that went into effect on Feb. 10th.  I will be joining their efforts to showcase the great loss of American culture and history that this law demands.  Please join us in calling Washington and demanding that this law be changed.  The information is available here

From my collection:

Corn-Belt Billy by Mabel Leigh Hunt illustrated by Kurt Weise.

Wee Willow Whistle by Kay Avery, illustrated by Winifred Bromhall

Hilda Boswell's Treasury of Children's Stories

Mable Pyne's The Little History of the United States

Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Camel with the Wrinkled Knees by Johnny Gruelle

The Little Lost Angel by Janet Field Heath illustrated by Janey Laura Scott

Each of these lovely books is now illegal to buy, sell, trade or even give away under the CPSIA.  How very un-American!  Let us not stand still and accept this overstepping government.  Make the calls!

• Jan. 10, 2009 - CPSIA

I have hesitated to write about this lunacy because at first, I simply didn't believe it.  I mean, really.... It makes no sense at all.  I kept going to snopes to see where this crazy Internet rumor began.  Sadly, it is not a rumor; it was signed into law back in August.  I am not going to rehash all that's already been written on this topic, but will direct your attention to one of the best sources to information I have found: The Common Room. The link is not to the homepage, but to the CPSIA catagory.   Make sure read the entries farther down to see what happened on previous days.

To borrow a section from her enrty on Jan. 9th, :

What can you do?
Write your Congress critters. Be forewarned that every one of them who was in office in 2007 voted for this bill, except Ron Paul. They are very proud of it and think they did a wonderful thing. They typically have been responding with form letters that completely ignore the substance of the complaint letters they've received. In fact, they probably do not see your letters at all, their aides do. So you need to be prepared to write twice, or word your first letter in such a way to make it clear you will not be fobbed off by a form letter which ignores your concerns about small cottage businesses, books, and resale shops.
Find your Congressperson here.
Find your Senator here.

Write Cheryl Falvey, General Counsel of the USPSC

Write to the CPSC here.

Sign a petition.

Respond to the CPSC Request for Comments (deadline, January 30)

Respond to their request
that those who make and sell children's products send them a list of products they use that are inherently lead-free so they should be exempt.

Email them at Sec101Determinations@cpsc.gov, telling them what products should be exempt and why.

Write letters to the editor.

Email your friends.

Blog about it.

• Dec. 18, 2008 - The Stowers

Many of you won't have heard about this, since it isn't being covered in the mainstream media, but earlier this month, a sweet homeschooling family of ten was terrorized in their home by Ohio State officials.  It's been covered here and here and here and here

Isn't this the land of the free and the home of the brave?  Do we not have the right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure? (see Article the Sixth) THEY TOOK THESE FOLKS PERSONAL FOOD SUPPLY!  How many people can afford to go and buy a replacement years supply of food for ten people?  What does a personal food supply have to do with a licensing issue anyway?  The One hasn't even been inaugurated yet.

In this video, the Stowers describe what happened the day the government came.

• Nov. 24, 2008 - Let's just see it already!

This is from WorldNet Daily and Jeff Bettendorf.

Insufficient public interest?

WND © 2008

Another lawsuit attempting to obtain a copy of Barack Obama’s Hawaiian birth certificate was thrown out Friday by a judge who said there was “insufficient evidence to indicate that the public interest supports” the document’s release.

Judge Bert Ayabe upheld arguments from Republican Gov. Linda Lingle’s office, which, inexplicably, has fought tooth and nail to protect the birth certificate from public scrutiny even though it remains the key to establishing whether the man elected to be the next president is actually eligible under the Constitution.

Ayabe ruled that Andy Martin, the man who filed the suit, did not have standing under state law because he did “not have a direct and tangible interest in the vital statistic records being sought, namely the birth certificate of President Obama.”

Yes, you read that right. The judge in the case not only denied the motion, he also elevated Obama to the presidency before the Electoral College votes and before the Inauguration takes place Jan. 20. Is it any wonder he didn’t understand the constitutional issues at stake?

But it is that other excuse for not releasing the document that really has me bugged – “insufficient evidence to indicate that the public interest supports” the release.

Let me point you to Exhibit A in the evidence-of-public-interest department: It is a petition I launched Friday to all controlling legal authorities – Congress, Supreme Court, Federal Elections Commission, Electoral College, etc. – urging scrutiny of the original birth certificate and release of facsimile to the public.

Within 24 hours, 24,000 people had signed up.

Within 48 hours, 48,000 people had signed up.

Do you see a pattern here?

It appears to me that about 1,000 people per hour are signing this petition. I would say that is evidence indicating public interest, wouldn’t you?

I tell you this because there are other judges who will be ruling in the days ahead. Even the U.S. Supreme Court is going to review this issue soon. That’s why it is imperative that the public makes its voice heard.

You now have that opportunity on this petition.

I urge you to e-mail it to all your friends.

Do you know people concerned about this birth-certificate issue?

Do you know Americans who still care about little matters like constitutional eligibility for presidents?

Do you know others who will put their names to this petition and pass it along?

Then put your name to it and e-mail it to your entire Christmas card list.

I’m not asking you to march in the streets of Washington.

I’m not asking you to send money for a courtroom battle.

I’m not asking you to write to your congressman.

I’m asking you to take about 90 seconds to put your name and e-mail address on the petition and send it to others.

I believe it can make a profound difference.

At the current rate, before the end of December, we’ll have 1 million signed up on this petition. We can get there faster if you can help me circulate it beyond WND readers.

I would think a petition of 1 million names would be sufficient evidence of public interest for nearly any judge.

Keep in mind, this has been achieved with no coverage outside WND. If we get some help from talk radio and some of my eminent colleagues in the news media, who knows where it can go.

But they’ll take notice more quickly if you get involved. I need this miracle petition to continue to grow at the current pace or faster. Can you help me?

Show them you are watching. Show them you are awake. Show them you do care. Show them you read the Constitution. Show them this is still America, the land of the free, the home of the brave, where the rule of law reigns supreme and the will of the people prevails. Sign the petition.

Spread the word.
