livin' it up at home

• May. 3, 2006 - Well, it is that time of year....time to PANIC!!!!

Posted in homeschool

WOW we have just about made it through another school year and the panic it kicking in strong!! I was think late last night (when I should have been sleeping) that "Red 1"(BTW I got the names from the movie the Pacifier, it has nothing to do with their hair, well ok two of them have red hair but ......maybe I should call them C1, C2, C3, C4 since they all have names that start with Cs) will be in 5th grade next year, then 6th, 7th, 8th and then HIGH SCHOOL!!!! What am I going do do then?? Then I started thinking about Red 3 or C3 LOL who does BTW have red hair, he is 5 and not reading, not showing much interest in reading, not acting like he is understanding the whole reading thing P A N I C. We have tried Abeka which Red 2 (no red hair) used and worked well with. It doesnt seem to click for Red 3. Trying Saxon Phonics, he doesnt seem to be getting it with this either P A N I C.  Then there is Red 4( yes red hair) and she is learning what Red 3 should be but isnt. Red 1 and 4 are girls, are girls just easier to teach???? They seem to have less wiggles.  SOOOO I am feeling completely lost, worthless and terrible as a teacher. (sigh) You all know what I have been thinking about that beautiful yellow school bus that drives by each morning .  Ok then I have been thinking about what to use next year P A N I C!!!! I feel like hiding  It all seems too much to handle. WHAT to use to teach, HOW to get them to learn what I am teaching, HOW to make sure one isnt missing something they should be learning, HOW to teach all 4 of them when they are all on different levels. HOW to keep myself from going INSANE Maybe I already am insane and I just haven't figured it out yet LOL Well anyway here is the plan for the next 10 days of this year. We are doing 2 or 3 subjects a day. Thats it. Then through the summer we will be doing 2 or 3 lessons of math a week for the older two and reading, reading, reading, with mom for all of them. Any good book suggestions? Send them my way. For Red 3 we are going to review review the letters and sounds and read with mom and then in the fall try the reading thing again. I really feel like I am hitting my head on the wall with reading right now for him. I am just frustrating us both. We are going to go through botany this summer, since it is the only time we have anything growing to explore.(Good old Wyoming) We also have a bunch of hands on science kits we need to get to. SO I guess I am now in the year around schooling camp BUT it is going to be relaxed, no stressing out (yeah right!!) We have soccer, horseback riding lessons,Cinderella dance camp, young musican camp and a play with our homeschool co-op to keep us busy.

Well I guess I have vented or whined enough for one day  so it is off to do something worth while. Have a wonderful God filled day.

Because this is so me!!!
Tell me how the kids do when you break the year around schooling thing.
My 10dd was a little freaked at first.
Then she realized it won't be to bad.
I always enjoy your witty writing,
God bless,
Linda

It's not as bad as it looks. You need some time off to stop and smell the roses. Take some advice from an old (56 at this time) pro - they will learn to read as long as you keep reading to them. My son didn't read until age 9 and he ended up in college at 15! Some kids are late starters. As far as teaching multi-level, why don't you read over my webpage: http://www.oklahomahomeschool.com/MultiLevel.html. Maybe something on there will help. Best wishes for a stress-free summer!

Of course, I think I tend to be more extreme and not nearly as witty.
Thank you for the comment I really had not intended to take the time to read many other blogs than my own but I am glad I came over.
I hope you have a Blessed day!

Oh you are right about the school bus by the way, my kids were in PS for a while and it was awful! It does look beautiful some mornings though doesn't it?
