livin' it up at home
Jan. 31, 2009 - Jesus is coming...where are your children??
As some of you know my oldest daughter has voice her opinion on going to public school. This has been heavy on my mind this year and in my prayers as well. I have jokingly said that I wished God would send me a fax or text message with what He wants me to do about this. Well, just the other day I think I may have gotten my answer in the form of an email. In side the email was this link http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=87264.
To day before I got this email I received the lastest issue of "The Old School House" which is loaded with articles on this topic.
I guess I really did get an electronic answer to me prayers.
Now for one of the sweetest pictures I have seen in a long time.....
Have a great weekend. |

Jan. 28, 2009 - Pirate come to school
Jan. 18, 2009 - Abandon Public Education
Sep. 17, 2008 - Poetry Appreciation
We are using Language Lessons for the Little Ones #3 for Cade this year. This is written and published by Queen's Homeschool supplies. We are using different books in the series for all 4 kids and I really like them. Very sweet and Charlotte Manson flavored. The lessons are short and the kids seem to enjoy the books. Today Cade had a lesson on poetry appreciation. He listened to me read a poem and them draw a picture of what the poem made him think of. The poem was "The Night Will Never Stay" by Eleanor Farjeon. I want to share Cade's picture.
I am sure you can tell it is a tree in the forest at night. See the stars and the black sky.
Enjoy
UPDATE: I am listing the poem so you can get a better feel for the poem and why Cade draw what he did.
"The Night Will Never Stay"
(Eleanor Farjeon)
The night will never stay,
The night will still go by,
Though with a million stars
You pin it to the sky;
Though you bind it with the blowing wind
And buckle it with the moon,
The night will slip away
Like sorrow or a tune. |

May. 15, 2008 - SCHOOL IS OUT....so they think : )
I had Bev @ www.homeschoolblogger.com/BevG/ ask when we were done with school so instead of posting a big reply to her blog I thought I would add one to mine. We are done with school this week, the 16th is the last day but we will be doing a bunch of stuff through the summer, this is the plan. We will see what we get done. I just downloaded Beginning Reading from "In The Hand of a Child" for Chesney to work on through the summer. I also have plans for some other lapbooks for her based on books. I will getting them from my most favorite place, Homeschool Share. We are going to get to botany this summer (I promise Miss Y) I bought some wonderful, wonderful notebook pages for this study from Live and Learn, I am excited about getting to these. I have a ton of lapbook subjects for the kids like tigers, amphibians, pirates, Ancient China, Prince Caspian, dance, aligators, and we will be finishing gorillas, which we started this week. Reading, reading and more reading is going to be a must this summer, mostly for the boys. We also will be finishing Cantering the Country which we have been using to notebook and learn about every state in the USA. I really like this book but do not want to continue the state study next year so we will "Try" to finish through the summer. Another great book we have been using with this study is " The Man in The Middle" It is a fun way to remember the state location on the map. We love it. Chase will be working through the summer with Times Tales deluxe to try to get those darn times tables down. I also have "Two plus Two is not Five" for Cade to help learn the addition facts. Add in baseball, soccer and dance camps, geez we arent out of school but dont tell the kids!!!
Happy summer! |

Dec. 10, 2007 - Did you know......
that it is believed that George Washington could have died because of blood letting?!? We learned this today in our study of the human body. We are using "God's Design For Life: The Human Body" We learned that President Washington had a cold and as he became more seriously ill his doctors bled him. As his condition worsen they bleed him more to let out the disease. It is believed that this may have been the actual cause of his death. Bet they do not teach that in the public school text books!! Oh, wait I know they do not, I am a product of the public school system LOL Isnt it amazing all I am learning oh I mean what my kids are learning LOL |

Oct. 1, 2007 - The Human Body
For science this year we are studying teh humand body using the perfectly wonderful "God's Design for Life" series from Answers in Genesis . We are loving it. I may have to get the whole series. To go along with it we are making paper models of the area of the body we are studying. We are getting our models from " The Body Book" Today we made our skeletons and as we go along we will add to this skeleton the other areas of the body.
Everyone made their own skeleton and I have to say they were colorful! I was up last night until 11:00 cutting out the bodies but it saved me and them a lot of frustation today. It was a lot of fun.
Guess what we are going to get tonight, more snow
Happy Monday |

Nov. 2, 2006 - Didjeridoo, Didjeridoo everywhere a Didjeridoo!!!
Didjeridoo, Didjeridoo now isnt that fun to say?? Our co-op had music on Firday and the kid each made their own Didjeridoo. If you happen to be wondering what on earth a Didjeridoo is, they are an Australian Aboriginal musical instrument. They have a very unique sound and are considered to be a wind instrument. This site has the sound playing if you would like to take a listen. http://didjeridoo.boustedt.com/ and here is one more site
http://www.didjishop.com/shop1/didj_musical_keys.php
Hope you listened, arent they cool sounding!
Traditionally, didjeridoos can be made from several types of eucalyptus tree which grow wild in much of Northern Australia. The trees are naturally hollowed out by termites, who eat up through the tree's soft center. It is these hollow trees that are selected by the Aborigines, cut down and turned into didjeridoos. They are used by Aborigines for secret ceremonies, initiation rites and social gatherings or corroborees.
Our didjeridoos are made out of sanded PVC pipe and painted with acrylic paints. They may not be the real thing but they are very cool and a big hit with all the kids in our co-op.
Here are some pictures of my very own Didjeridoo band members.
"Red1" who isnt red at all, with her beautifully painted Didjeridoo.
Next is "Red2", also not red!

Now for "Red3" and "Red 4" who are both really "red" LOL

And their master pieces (yes I know I spelled her name wrong!!! Guess, I was doing ten things at once, like normal. Silly Mom)
Now "Red 3" would like to show you his science experiment.

This is what happens when you remove your selt belt and stand up in a moving van that is coming to a stop!!! You keep moving even when the van has stopped! Do not try this at home folks!! And stitches in the head HURT!!

May. 3, 2006 - Well, it is that time of year....time to PANIC!!!!
WOW we have just about made it through another school year and the panic it kicking in strong!! I was think late last night (when I should have been sleeping) that "Red 1"(BTW I got the names from the movie the Pacifier, it has nothing to do with their hair, well ok two of them have red hair but ......maybe I should call them C1, C2, C3, C4 since they all have names that start with Cs) will be in 5th grade next year, then 6th, 7th, 8th and then HIGH SCHOOL!!!! What am I going do do then?? Then I started thinking about Red 3 or C3 LOL who does BTW have red hair, he is 5 and not reading, not showing much interest in reading, not acting like he is understanding the whole reading thing P A N I C. We have tried Abeka which Red 2 (no red hair) used and worked well with. It doesnt seem to click for Red 3. Trying Saxon Phonics, he doesnt seem to be getting it with this either P A N I C. Then there is Red 4( yes red hair) and she is learning what Red 3 should be but isnt. Red 1 and 4 are girls, are girls just easier to teach???? They seem to have less wiggles. SOOOO I am feeling completely lost, worthless and terrible as a teacher. (sigh) You all know what I have been thinking about that beautiful yellow school bus that drives by each morning . Ok then I have been thinking about what to use next year P A N I C!!!! I feel like hiding It all seems too much to handle. WHAT to use to teach, HOW to get them to learn what I am teaching, HOW to make sure one isnt missing something they should be learning, HOW to teach all 4 of them when they are all on different levels. HOW to keep myself from going INSANE Maybe I already am insane and I just haven't figured it out yet LOL Well anyway here is the plan for the next 10 days of this year. We are doing 2 or 3 subjects a day. Thats it. Then through the summer we will be doing 2 or 3 lessons of math a week for the older two and reading, reading, reading, with mom for all of them. Any good book suggestions? Send them my way. For Red 3 we are going to review review the letters and sounds and read with mom and then in the fall try the reading thing again. I really feel like I am hitting my head on the wall with reading right now for him . I am just frustrating us both. We are going to go through botany this summer, since it is the only time we have anything growing to explore.(Good old Wyoming) We also have a bunch of hands on science kits we need to get to. SO I guess I am now in the year around schooling camp BUT it is going to be relaxed, no stressing out (yeah right!!) We have soccer, horseback riding lessons,Cinderella dance camp, young musican camp and a play with our homeschool co-op to keep us busy.
Well I guess I have vented or whined enough for one day so it is off to do something worth while. Have a wonderful God filled day.
