Once again, time escapes me
Posted in Menagerie
I don't know how it manages to do it, but time seems to easily slip away from my grasp. I always have good intentions regarding posting...but then ultimately, life draws me in, and things get set aside to be temporarily neglected. And here it is, already February...how can that be? Didn't we just celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc? And now in a mere couple weeks, it will be Valentine's Day...once again. I suspect it shan't be much longer, and the snows will be melting, and warmer weather will once again be here. I do look forward to that time, to be honest. Being able to plant my flowers, put sheets on the line to dry, and just enjoying being out in the fresh air. Seems so far away right now, but I know when the time is upon us, I will look back and wonder how it arrived so quickly.
I know I have been promising to post our vaccine story...and I will. It is still quite difficult for me, to be honest. It takes so much out of me when I put it to type, or when I talk about it. It leaves me rather weary...and so it is something that I have to work myself up to. I do apologise for the delay...I pray for your continued patience.
Going to close this entry, but I will be back again soon, and look forward to catching up with you all once again!

Where does the time go?
Posted in Menagerie
I truly do not know how the time escapes me! Already into November...can you believe it?
I know a couple of you are wanting me to post our vaccinating story, as well as links. I PROMISE I will get to it very soon. It's one of those things I have to muster the will up to share, simply because it still hurts this Mommy's heart, to this day.
I am going out of state on Friday, for a few days. When I return, I will sit down, and type everything out. Please be patient!
Off to bed now...almost 1am. UGH! Will update again come the first of the week.
Hope everyone is doing well, and staying warm!

I don't know why I didn't get email notification of this post, but nonetheless, here I am! In reply to my new kitty entry, Netherfieldmom posted the following:
4everHischild invited me to participate in a tag, and now I tag you. The rules of the tag are to go to Wikipedia and type in the day and month of your birth, excluding the year, and hit search. Then you are to list three events, two births, and one holiday that occurred on your birthday. Netherfieldmom.
Here are the results:
APRIL 12
Now....hmmmmm....whomever shall I tag???

It's final...he's ours!
Posted in Menagerie
Well, it's official! As of August 4th, the pretty kitty I spoke of in my last post, is ours! We adopted him online, and thus had never seen him before the day he arrived. To say he was a mess, is an understatement. Was pretty sad, really. He also had a pretty rough day that day, but he is finally coming around.
When they arrived with him, I saw what I thought was dust all over his coat, presumably from the pet carrier. After they rescue left, I checked him out more closely, and discovered he was suffering from a horrible case of dandruff, and his coat was so awfully dull. Poor guy! Not to mention, a pretty severe case of ear mites. We immediately got out the Shed Ender, and went to work on his coat. It took about 4 days of constant brushing, but his coat is now quite shiny, and the dandruff is almost completely gone. As for the ear mites, the rescue treated him, but I have a feeling I am going to have to treat him again, as he seems to still be having ear issues. He DOES like lazing about a lot though.

On top of everything, he was forcibly removed from his home since birth (4 years), vaccinated, blood drawn, tested for FIV/FLKV, micro-chipped, de-wormed, and driven two hours to a new family...we had one unhappy kitty for a few days. He never acted out, scratching, biting, etc. Nor did he have any accidents. But, I was getting worried. He never peed for the first 48+ hours, and he finally did "big business", only last night. How can a cat hold it that long? He refused to eat for 72 hours, so I suppose that had something to do with it. He is really coming around now, and while he is still uncertain, he is much more friendly. Once he has had more time, I have no doubts he will be a wonderful pet.

He has gotten himself into a predicament or two already. On Monday night, August 6th, we could not find him! We looked for almost two hours, trying to find him. The last we had seen him for certain, was upstairs, in one of the bedrooms. We searched this house, top to bottom, multiple times. Until around 1:30 in the morning. Where did we finally find him? Right here:

I'm certain he was laughing inside...and here's how cute he was right after this picture was taken...how could ya remain irritated?

What a cute face, eh? What was SCARY though, was the following night. We have an antique International Harvester chest freezer. This thing is older than old...and as would be expected due to how well things were built back then, it still runs. It consists of the chest freezer, and to the right, about a fourth of the size of the entire freezer, is the unit that houses the motor. The motor is housed itself, and the there is a housing unit around that, so it is consistent with the shape of the rest of the freezer. How he did it, I don't know...but he managed to squeeze himself into that housing unit! He was not a happy camper...and thankfully the motor was housed in it's own unit! At any rate, we had to pull off the main housing unit, in order to get him out...I don't think he'll crawl back in there again any time soon!
Aside from the few scares, he has been pretty funny. Here he is, playing with his fishing pole toy:

Okay...I know our carpet is brutal...no comments please! =oP He also likes to be under the chalkboard while wee one is doing work on it. I dunno...I guess he thinks he is the task-master?

In all, aside from the issues we've had to contend with, he seems to be very affectionate. He is still a bit skittish of wee one, and of DH, but I suspect that it will come with time. I think right now I am his comfort zone. Had I known ahead of time of his health issues, I probably would have changed my mind about adopting him. However, I am now so thankful we found him...he is perfect for us. And as you can see...he thinks he rules the house! =o)

Updated & Life
Posted in Menagerie
No one be shocked, but yes, it's true. I have finally updated my blog! I thought it was probably time to get rid of the St. Patrick's Day theme; you all probably think I am someone who leaves my Christmas lights up on my house all year long too! =oP At any rate, I figured since it was getting "that time" again, I would go with a school theme. Many thanks to Iara for her too adorable graphics!
Life is life, here. You know how it is. Currently, we're hoping to add a new member to the family...no...not a baby, sadly. Always praying for that one. This adoption has 4 legs and meows. Back at the end of June, our Cooter kitty became quite ill, almost literally from one minute to the next. We took him to the vet, and discovered he had feline leukemia. Being as he was a strictly inside cat, and we had adopted him 3.5 years ago from the local humane society, we were astounded to learn this. Long story short, the vet explained how in the type of cattery that our local humane society is, up to 50% of the felines will be carriers. When we adopted Cooter, they claimed to have tested him for feline leukemia. However, being that Cooter was the only cat in our home, and never outside, he simply had to be infected with it when we chose him. Additionally, it's not a disease like distemper that we humans can carry in on the soles of our shoes, etc. At any rate, yes we have been devastated, especially my wee one. And, true to the vet's word, my wee one's behavior has been horrible! It's been more than a month since Cooted died, so we are now ready to add a new member of the family. Here's the pic of our (hopeful) new addition:

Isn't he beautiful?? We were looking in the local paper, and came across an ad, that we thought was surely a misprint. It stated:
"Kittens-Adorable, neutered, microchipped, vet-checked, all shots, FELV/IV negative. Only $20. Can deliver."
As I said, we thought it was a misprint, so we called. It turns out that it is an animal rescue, and they have a wonderful benefactor. This benefactor provides for all the vet issues listed above. Additionally, the benefactor provides the funds for delivery. So, even though we are 2.5 HOURS away, they will bring kitty here. Isn't that just too cool??! The benefactor is surely an angel on earth!
When we called, they gave us the link to their site, and I could bring every one of them home, I swear! However, knowing that we only have the finances (vet-wise) to take in one cat, we had to narrow our choice down. And the guy above is whom we have fallen in love with! Now, we're anxiously awaiting his arrival! (We're still waiting to be approved, but I honestly do not foresee an issue with that.)
Let's see, what else? We're getting ready to start "focusing" more on school again. We school all year, but over the summer, we're more about having fun, than anything! Part of our "start", was our visiting a large, free-range/organic farm on Sunday. I only expected we'd be there for about half an hour, but we were there for almost TWO hours! We took along a friend of my wee one, and they had a great time! It was especially interesting, as the family also unschools. It was more fun than I anticipated...unfortunately, we forgot the camera. *Sigh*
Not much else to chatter about, honestly. I could bore you all with the hot weather, but I'm pretty certain the majority of you know exactly what I'm talking about! =oP
So, for now, I'm off! DH, the wee one, and the dog just came back inside after giving the dog a bath...and now the bird is squawking like mad! And now DH and wee one are fighting...off to babysit the kids. *Grumble*
