Celebrating the Liturgical Year

I've been contemplating how we can more fully celebrate the liturgical year in our home this coming school year.  We've dabbled before, mostly by reading books from Catholic Mosaic and the occasional tea and craft from Dawn at By Sun and Candlelight, but we've never been very consistent.

So, I had this idea...it began as a way to introduce more saints to my children.  I thought we would do some sort of scrapbook, so that when we celebrate a feast day of a saint, we make a scrapbook page about it.  Sort of a "Scrapbooking with the Saints" type of thing.

But then I started thinking, what about other feast days?  The ones that don't involve a saint at all, like Candlemas, or the Transfiguration.  I wouldn't want to leave those feasts out of our scrapbook.  My idea has now evolved into a Liturgical Year Scrapbook.

I'm still fleshing this out, and I'll probably flesh it out several times through out the year, but for now, what I'm envisioning is a sort of compilation of the children (and me as well), into one book.  To have 3 scrapbooks going at once would just become too overwhelming.  So, I'm thinking they will all contribute to each spread.  I'm hoping this will encourage my artsy twins to participate more, and also give us a lovely family keepsake at the end of the year.

For a great liturgical scrapbook, try accessing www.catholicculture.org for daily writeups on the saints and feasts. This site also provides great recipes, activities and prayers for the day. One of my absolute FAVE blogs is Cottage Blessings. You can either google it or access it at alice.typepad.com (I think). She has the most wonderful ideas for teas and an awesome Holy Week/Easter Vigil notebook.......unbelievable, really!!!!
I know we did Catholic Mosaic last year and the kids loved it! I was going to try some different things this year and they begged to use Catholic Mosaic again!!!
Imagine that, children WANTING to know more about their faith!
Good Luck and Post Pictures......
