DandelionSeeds asked us to share about our curriculum choices so I thought this would be a good time to share ours for this next year. I have made quite a few changes so it might make for an interesting year.Math
We made a major change here that caught even me off guard as I only decided it about a week or so before we went to the conference. We switched from Saxon to Math U See. There were many things leading up to this decision but the last one was the fact that while doing the first few lessons in their next Saxon books, they were missing problems. This should have been all review especially since we only took a 3 week break from Math. That bothered me that maybe they really didn't have the information down solid. This was confirmed when I received DD 1's test scores from her yearly evaluation and Math was her weak subject, more than I expected. So DD 1 is doing Epsilon (fractions), DD 2 is doing Delta (division) and DD 3 & 4 are doing Gamma (multiplication) after they bone up on some multi digit addition using worksheets from MUS's site.
English/Grammar
DD 1 will be continuing in Easy Grammar Plus
DD 2 will be doing Easy Grammar 5/6
DD 3 & 4 will be using English for a Thoughtful Child
History/Literature/Writing
Tapestry of Grace was my choice here. I have been looking at this for 3 or 4 months and I just kept getting more excited about it. I still am. We are beginning with Year 1 Redesigned so it is scheduled for me to receive the first unit this month. For now, I am looking over the book list and checking what our library has.
Science
DD 1 is going to use Apologia General Science. We went with the CD so she wouldn't be overwhelmed by the size of the textbook. She wants to start now but I told her to hold on until July.
I am not going to do anything formal with the others but I might throw in some lessons here and there.
Handwriting
We use Getty/Dubay Italic Handwriting. I love how nicely it looks and have even adapted some of it into my handwriting. DD 2 is doing Book F and DD 3 & 4 are doing Book D.
Vocabulary
DD 1 Wordly Wise 3000 Book 3
DD 2 Wordly Wise 3000 Book 1
DD 3 & 4 Wordly Wise 3000 Book B

Dandelion also wanted to know what worked well last year. The best thing I did was having us do math first and I limited it to an hour. It really made a difference with our day. As for what didn't work well, it would have to be finding a consistent time for our Bible time. Part of that had to do with having a baby in the house and the other was just life. I really struggle with having the same schedule day to day let along week to week. Appts come up, errands have to be run, ministry opportunities present themselves. I will continue to strive through the Lord's strength though!
As for when we will start, we go year round so we are already into our math and english. Lord Willing, we will begin everything else in August.
