And I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free. And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.~Lee Greenwood

Christmas

Posted in Holidays

Well it is hard to believe that Christmas has come and gone already.  We had a very nice, relaxing Christmas.  We celebrated with my parents on the 22nd with a simple buffet supper and present opening.  The next morning, we headed out early to the Tampa area to spend Christmas with MIL.  We enjoyed an afternoon  at the park complete with a place for the beagle to run in.

Christmas eve was spent hanging out at the house watching the Jags ruin their chance at the playoffs for the second week in a row.  BIL and his family came over in the early evening for pizza and more gift opening.  It had been pretty warm and humid that day and, when we turned MIL's a/c on, we found out that it wasn't working.  We ended up sleeping with open windows.  The wind picked up through the night though and we were up and down continuously closing windows due to candles being blown over and curtains flying in our faces.

Christmas was a wet one but it didn't bother us as we just planned to hang out around the house.  After gift opening, during which I received a wireless rain gauge and a roaster oven, we put together a 500 piece puzzle, played Monopoly (I won) and just relaxed.  It rained real hard in the morning and we kept the news on since there was a tornado watch.  North Tampa did get hit pretty hard but we were spared thankfully.  The girls had a great Christmas receiving many things on their wish lists including bow and arrows, design studio, horses and Polly Pockets.

For Tuesday, we were going to head down to the Ringling museum in Sarasota.  After checking it out a little more, we decided the girls wouldn't really enjoy it enough to justify the expense.  We decided instead to head out to MOSI where the girls could get lots of energy out as it was still drizzly and cooler.  That was a big hit!  The neat thing is it was cheaper for us to buy a membership than pay the admission prices so we can head over there this whole next year and get into our local museum also!  I did head out to Target first thing in the morning and picked up a few clearance items.  It wasn't real crowded and even the Walmart I passed had a half empty parking lot which is very unusual.  Things had picked up when I went back out after breakfast.  I hit a Family Christian store and found the wooden advent set I wanted for 1/2 price!!  I was thrilled!

We spent today taking down all our Christmas decorations.  I usually wait until at least New Year's day but I was just ready this year since I need to work on some school planning and meal planning along with finances before starting back to school next week.  It is so nice to know that it is done and even put up in the attic already!  Tomorrow, I will do some yard work that couldn't get done while there were lights all over the yard.

Sounds like a wonderful time with your family. I remember living in Mississippi having those balmy Christmases. One year, after we moved here, we went down to MS for Christmas. When we left it was quite chilly. When we stepped out of the car there, it was warm, windy, and a tornado watch. I don't miss those things! Great that you already have so much done and planned for this week. I haven't. : ( I've been in the middle of a major dejunking project all week, so I've neglected plans.
LOVE the family picture. You have a beautiful family. You girls look so sweet.
Happy New Year
