Last week I purchased a burger at Burger King for $1.58. The counter girl took my $2 and I was digging for my change when I pulled 8 cents from my pocket and gave it to her. She stood there, holding the nickel and 3 pennies, while looking at the screen on her register. I sensed her discomfort and tried to tell her to just give me two quarters, but she hailed the manager for help. While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried.
Why do I tell you this?
Because of the evolution in teaching math since the 1950s:
I've seen this before but it didn't have the Spanish one (#6), that one made me laugh! Just the other day we were in the store and saw a place mat with all the presidents of the united states and under each word was the Spanish translation....on a place mat to teach American Presidents! Crazy!
This is so true it is sad! I did laugh at the last two! But really it is sad how close to the truth that is. I once saw a History book from the 1940's at a school library where I was teaching. This book was 6th grade level and it was harder than my college history course! No pictures either! It was reading sections with long lists of questions. Absolutely no color! That is one thing that I think is so sad about text book selection. I remember in PS when I taught that was one of the main requirements - lots of color and pictures! Thanks for sharing! Eva
My faith teaches me that the calling of Christian homemaker, wife, or mother is just as holy as one to "full-time ministry."
I am a mom of seven children ages eight and under seeking and sharing helpful tidbits learned during this season of life. May we glorify and enjoy Him each day!
