Singing Psalm 117

My memories of my grandmother always have a song playing in the background.  A hymn, in fact.  She was always singing verses of praise to her Savior as she cleaned and worked around her home.  I cannot think of her without remembering her love for the Lord.

I don't want my children to have memories of a tired, frazzled, or weepy mommy!  My grandmother knew how to live a life of praise to God.  And those memories inspire me to want to sing praise--even if it is just a couple of verses at a time--while I work around my home.

This week I have next to my kitchen sink Psalm 117.  It is so simple and short that even the youngest children can memorize it.  To the tune of "All Creatures of Our God and King" from the Trinity Psalter:

PSALM 117

From all that dwell below the skies,

O let Jehovah's praise arise!

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

And let His glorious name be sung

In ev'ry land, by ev'ry tongue!

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Great are the mercies of the Lord,

And truth eternal is His word;

Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Ye nations, sound from shore to shore

Jehovah's praise forever more!

Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

My two year old is now toddling about saying "AH-LAY-LU-LAH" over and over again.

ALLELUIA!

That is so sweet! Andrew (my 2 year old) is always singing "Holdy, Holdy, Holdy!" That sound is hopefully burned in my memory forever.

"I don't want my children to have memories of a tired, frazzled, or weepy mommy!"

It is hard to be a mom some days and I want to represent what is good and lovely about being a mother. Argh - it is just not happening sometimes. I really understand that! May God give us both even a tiny portion of His mind and heart that we may love our little ones for Him and like Him.

PS: Oh, and I am going to rent Middlemarch because I just finished reading it! It was a great book and I can't wait. :+)

About Me

My faith teaches me that the calling of Christian homemaker, wife, or mother is just as holy as one to "full-time ministry." I am a mom of seven children ages nine and under (plus one on the way!) seeking and sharing helpful tidbits learned during this season of life. May we glorify and enjoy Him each day! :o), Moms4Psalms
