Today was somewhat chaotic. We installed Andrew's switched on schoolhouse subjects-that took some time. Two of the kids started math today and were constantly coming to me for help because they had forgotten things over the summer. But overall it was a good day. The weather was very fall-like (my favorite type of weather) and we spent a good amount of time outside. Charles and Isaiah's Total Language Plus curriculum came in the mail, but one of them was the wrong book. So, I guess I have to send it back and wait for the right one to come. We should be getting a package in the mail tomorrow with the rest of our books. In the evening Isaiah and Andrew went to play practice and I took the younger two kids to the Library. I started reading " The House at Pooh Corner" by A.A. Milne to Sophie and Christian. Christian read a Bob the builder book called "spud the Dragon". |

Today we didn't follow a schedule at all. Andrew was invited to a "back to homeschool" party this morning. So, I dropped him off early and took the younger kids to the Library to pick up some books we'll be using this week. When we got home Christian and I did the second lesson in his Language book. Then he read aloud a book he picked out at the library. Today is another beautiful day. I took the younger 3 kids on a nature walk and I was so pleased that my hubby was able to join us! I'm having the kids start a nature notebook this year, so we all looked for things we could take back with us to draw. We wanted to find another salamander, but we didn't . Today was our first day of school. I really just wanted walk through the schedule with the kids. I'm still waiting for most of our books to arrive in the mail anyway. I set my alarm (something I rarely do) and got up before the kids. I was able to unload the dishwasher, shower and dress and then sit and read the bible with complete quiet. It was so nice! Then I woke the kids and we followed the new schedule until 1:00. The kids played math games during math time and word games during the language arts hour. After lunch break the older boys did some yard work and I took the younger kids to the grocery store. I started the book First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise with Christian today. I've never used this book before, but I think I'm going to like it. It's for 1st and 2nd grade and it uses memory work, narration, copying and dictation and grammar. He also finished a story that he's been working on. It was great to spend one on one time with Christian. It was such a gorgeous day and we spent much of the afternoon outside. Later I read to Isaiah a chapter from Imprisoned in the Golden City by Dave and Neta Jackson. |

We had such a nice day yesterday! We stayed home all day -I look forward to days where I don't have to go anywhere. The boys stayed busy with creative activities thought the day -writing stories, building with legos, playing board games and drawing. In the afternoon we took a nice family walk up the logging trail again, something we've been doing more often. It's so beautiful and peaceful out there. We take Paige with us, and she does very well without a leach. There is a nice clearing part way up the trail and dh and the boys played Frizbee together and with Paige. We also found a baby snake and a salamander. When we got back, there was a porcupine in our yard. Andrew got out his camcorder and got some video. It just sat still then ate some grass and let us watch him for a while. We have a family of them here. One night we watched them all climb a tree. |

Yesterday my hubby and I took the younger two kids for a really nice walk up the logging trail behind our house. We wanted to take our daughter to see our neighbor's horses that we can see from the trail, but the horses weren't out. We'll try again though -Sophie loves horses. It was wonderful just to walk and talk with with my hubby. When the weather starts getting cooler I usually start crocheting. We did have a few cooler days so I got the blanket out that I had started for Sophie before she was born. For some reason It never got finished, so now I'm making it larger than I originally planned. It's purple and now I'm making a white trim around it. She'll be able to use it this winter. Crocheting is such a relaxing activity, this fall I'm going to learn how to knit. We have one week till we start school. I'm now thinking about all those things I wanted to do before the summer was over. Where did the time go?! Hopefully, we'll go the the lake someday this week. |

It's been rough not having a computer. My hubby fixed one of the computers up really nicely, then after one day the power supply went. So, I don't I don't have much of a chance to blog, hopefully that will change soon. Isaiah is going to be in the musical "Just So" that Andrew is performing in this coming November. Isaiah loves to act and has been asking to be in a play. This is going to be a full length musical with lots of dancing. He learning a part of one of the dances at his audition and he's been practicing everyday. What has blessed me so much is that Andrew has been encouraging him and working with him with the singing and the choreohraphy. Because of the age difference, my oldest son and Isaiah don't seem to do very much together, so this is wonderful for them.
