Today was somewhat chaotic. We installed Andrew's switched on schoolhouse subjects-that took some time. Two of the kids started math today and were constantly coming to me for help because they had forgotten things over the summer. But overall it was a good day. The weather was very fall-like (my favorite type of weather) and we spent a good amount of time outside. Charles and Isaiah's Total Language Plus curriculum came in the mail, but one of them was the wrong book. So, I guess I have to send it back and wait for the right one to come. We should be getting a package in the mail tomorrow with the rest of our books. In the evening Isaiah and Andrew went to play practice and I took the younger two kids to the Library. I started reading " The House at Pooh Corner" by A.A. Milne to Sophie and Christian. Christian read a Bob the builder book called "spud the Dragon". |

Today we didn't follow a schedule at all. Andrew was invited to a "back to homeschool" party this morning. So, I dropped him off early and took the younger kids to the Library to pick up some books we'll be using this week. When we got home Christian and I did the second lesson in his Language book. Then he read aloud a book he picked out at the library. Today is another beautiful day. I took the younger 3 kids on a nature walk and I was so pleased that my hubby was able to join us! I'm having the kids start a nature notebook this year, so we all looked for things we could take back with us to draw. We wanted to find another salamander, but we didn't . Reading: Andrew-The Message bible Charles-Mattimeo by Brian Jacques Isaiah- The further Adventures of Hank the Cowdog by John Erickson Christian-Superdog, the Heart of a Hero by Caralyn Buehner. Sophie- Frank the Farmer an Usborne book |

Today was our first day of school. I really just wanted walk through the schedule with the kids. I'm still waiting for most of our books to arrive in the mail anyway. I set my alarm (something I rarely do) and got up before the kids. I was able to unload the dishwasher, shower and dress and then sit and read the bible with complete quiet. It was so nice! Then I woke the kids and we followed the new schedule until 1:00. The kids played math games during math time and word games during the language arts hour. After lunch break the older boys did some yard work and I took the younger kids to the grocery store. I started the book First Language Lessons for the Well-Trained Mind by Jessie Wise with Christian today. I've never used this book before, but I think I'm going to like it. It's for 1st and 2nd grade and it uses memory work, narration, copying and dictation and grammar. He also finished a story that he's been working on. It was great to spend one on one time with Christian. It was such a gorgeous day and we spent much of the afternoon outside. Later I read to Isaiah a chapter from Imprisoned in the Golden City by Dave and Neta Jackson. |
