Cancer

As a sweet friend of mine marks the anniversary of her 30-something sister dying from breast cancer this week, I am reminded of some incredible women still fighting the cancer fight.

Lana is the sister-in-law to my friend Holly.  Lana is 37 years young, she has lived a healthy lifestyle, she is the mommy to two young boys.  She has a serious form of breast cancer.

Melissa is a homeschool mom of seven young children.  She has a brain tumor.  She should have already passed away according to medical standards.

Amy is a dear friend to my friend Catherine.  She is a homeschool mom to four children.  She has a rare form of lung/throid cancer.  There is no more treatment that she can be given.  She, too, is a medical miracle.  At home she waits, waits for whatever the Lord has for her.  She lives her daily life to the fullest.

To me, these women are incredible.  Made of something extraordinary.  To know the 'sentence' that has been imposed onto your life.  To know that by man's terms things don't look so great.  But, from what I have seen and heard these women live everyday with such strength, dignity, and faith.  They get out of bed everyday in the midst of incredible pain.  They continue to clean their houses, change diapers, make meals, mow lawns, teach school, etc.  My friend Mary's sister Sarah worked as a Parole Officer until just shortly before she passed.

I never want to walk in their shoes.  I never want to be courageous like them.  I never want to know what it is like to find incredible faith in the midst of such an incredible circumstance.  I am a coward.

I pray for these women everyday.  I have wept with their friends and familiy.  My heart fills overwhelemed with emotion towards these women.  They are loved.

I know that these women and women like them thrive on the prayers and kind acts of friends and strangers alike.  If you are like me and have been blessed with good health (yes, it is a blessing) give to those who aren't.  Pray for them, take someone a meal, watch their kids, hold their hand, or send a card.  If you don't know someone; commit to praying for one of these three ladies.

Please also pray for Mary and her family this week.  Last year Sarah left behind a husband and two young girls.  She was young.  She is terribly missed and left a huge whole in her family.

Thank you Lord that I don't have cancer.

I can barely make it through life with a head cold! I'm sure that the Lord gives them the strength they need. I can't imagine going through such things without Him.

I agree with what you wrote in regards to cancer. I can not even imagine trying on the shoes of the dear souls I know who are battling and have battled cancer. I will pray for your friends too.
