Oh Yes they Called Him the Streak
Title in honour of my friend Sue.. wink
But it's nothing about "THAT" kind of streaking...
I saw a bright flash of yellow streak across my window yesterday. It came to rest on my kitchen window sill. I was very close, so was Janney. I wanted her to see, so I tried to lift her to see, but he flew away before she could focus on what I was telling her about.
Today I saw the pair of American Goldfinches in our yet to bloom lilac bushes. Every year I've seen one, but never a pair. I don't know if they're here to stay, or just passing through. I'd love for them to stay and raise a family, then maybe next year we'd have three or more.
They're so bright, you can spot them easily, but they're quick, and they're gone almost as fast as you see them. Too bad. I tried to find them again to show Janney today, but they were just gone.
Every year we get a mating pair of Mourning Doves. Last year it was fun to see, at the end of the summer, that there were 4 of them. I know I'm spotting Mourning Doves often this year, but I don't know if it's just the one pair, or more than the set. I saw one sitting in my nearly blooming ornamental crab apple tree this morning, they're so big, and so docile, perfectly happy to sit for a spell and just observe the morning passing by.
I've spotted a nesting Robin and her mate above the tree house.
There are plenty of black Grackles, Sparrows, Chickadees, Slate Junkos, and beige greeny bird I have yet to identify. I've spotted a few Swallows and Martins - we often get Purple Martins nesting on the side of the house, in view of a window. Two years ago, the fledgelings lit from the nest, landed on the kitchen window long enough for me to snap their picture, and then were off, to live the life of a bird.

Don't they still look like babies! And yet, they flew from the nest to this window sill, and then flew off again. This is the same window sill the American Goldfinch landed on yesterday. Too bad I wasn't camera ready. When O When will they develop a camera that can take images from my eyes! Blink, and the image is captured to share with the world.. lol |
