I confess that there are many things about my children I don't understand. Chiefly - I don't understand Bionicles. Now I don't even know if this is a Bionicle thing or not, but Myles wanted me to share with you his most recent drawing on paint.
This is called a SAI
Now though I don't understand it - or it's name, what I do understand is that Myles is gaining a greater control of the mouse and the basic functions of the Paint program on my computer. When I see some of the drawings done on other software like Photoshop, it excites me to think that Myles is just starting on this journey, that he's got a long way to go, but that he's beginning to show signs of a passion.
Here's his first Heart of Wisdom (our curriculum). assignment.
Now this is his writing - a first time effort at poetry - but the graphics and positioning of the words was an effort put together by Rourke and I. Myles did participate some, but Rourke is the one who has been spending time with the Photoshop software, so he's really the brains behind this all.
I'm really excited about the future - this coming academic year. I think as a family we're going to be exploring some new things, and as students, we'll be delving deeper into passions and working through some areas of struggle - but the victory will come at the end of the year, when we can look back and see where we've come from.
I'm hoping to better understand my boys - and their passions - and hoping to have them really blossom in persuing those passions.
Hey, in the time it took me to write this post, look at the changes he's made in the SAI
Sounds totally like my boys. My middle one made a whole cartoon on paint! When I first saw it I thought surely he had cut and pasted parts of it from somewhere else and was just adding a few things....nope...he did it all! It IS exciting....just the beginnings of something else to come.
Beautiful poem...love the graphics!
High Five to Myles on his Paint efforts and poetry. Loved the artwork for the poem that you guys did. Seriously impressed. I know how complicated Photoshop can be and it looks like you guys have "cased" some of it's great features! Keep up the great work.
I don't get bionicles either, but your post reminded me of one of those stories in my family that gets handed down and retold to the embarassment of the person who is the main character: my nephew. He is major, major into bionicles. Three years ago for his birthday, my MIL bought him a bionicles. Sadly it turned out to be one he already had.
He burst into tears and asserted, "This is my worst birthday EVER!!!"
By the next year he had well been coached on the art of exchanging gifts, saying thank you and acting appropriate even if you don't like what is in the box...

I am Sombra, and these are the stories from our house. We're a Messianic family where academics often take a back seat to the work and adventure of life.
Sep. 24, 2007 - A boy thing
I really like the poem.
