When I was a little girl, my mum and I played a little game. I'd ask her how much she loved me. She'd hold her thumb and forefinger up and hold them a cm apart, and say "this much?" I'd shake my head, she'd open her fingers wider, 2 inches maybe "this much?" I'd shake my head, she'd hold her hands 2 feet apart "This much?" Nope.. Then she'd swing her arms wide as she could and say "all the way to the moon and back?".. and I'd agree.
Well, this game is now being played with me and Janney, sometimes I ask her, sometimes she asks me..
The last few nights she's come to me at bedtime, and asked me "mummy, how much do you love me?" and I hold my fingers a few cms apart.. she shakes her head, I spread them wider, she shakes her head, and finally I throw my arms wide and say "all the way around the world to the moon and back!" and she gets this big big smile on her face, scrunches up her nose and give me a big big hug and kiss.
I love that she and I are playing a game that my mum and I played. Some families have huge family traditions, ours seem to be on a much smaller scale. Another family tradition is to wave good-bye using the sign language L - representing that we love each other.
My mum and I used to hide little smurf guys in each other's bathroom. I'd hide it in her medicine cabinet, she'd hide it in a plant in my bathroom, I'd hide it in her toilet paper roll.. and on it went. I can't wait to find a smurf to play this game with my kids, we need another bathroom though lol!
I am only a bit curious, I wonder what her reaction would have been to last nights Lunar eclipse and the moon not being there to be to the moon and back (:
Aww, how sweet. That reminds me of the book Guess How Much I Love You. It always makes me tear up a little. The little hare's final declaration of love is to say that he loves the big hare all the way to the moon, and then he falls asleep. The big hare whispers to the little one, "I love you all the way to the moon, and back." Ooops got a little teary just typing that. LOL
DS and I have been doing something along the same lines. He wrote me a small little message on our dry erase school board. "I love you" I wrote back later that day, "I love you too" It took him a little while to notice. Then he wrote, "No, I love you." LOL That is what we sometimes say to each other. It just warms my heart. And that reminds me. It's my turn to write a message.
LOL It is kind of two fold too because he is READING it!! WOoo hooo!

I am Sombra, and these are the stories from our house. We're a Messianic family where academics often take a back seat to the work and adventure of life.
