Horsing Around
Janney and Asher were playing outside, and I was tired from doing housework, so I thought I'd go check up on them. Janney was in a tree, Asher was riding his trike in the snow.
I asked them if they'd like to go see the horses, so off we went to the barn. I realized I wasn't wearing boots, so I thought I'd just go through the barn and stand at the open back door and pet them a bit.
Everyone was at the back door, two were lying down for a nap, but Rimmon was way over near a wind break. Janney wanted to go see her, so she climbed up on the snow and walked over to see her. Asher followed. I was getting a little worried, didn't know if Rimmon could get out on her own, and what if the kids sunk into the deep snow and I couldn't get to them. Finally Janney came back, and Asher followed, and Rimmon came too, but she did sink in just before she was off the snow.
Just then I realized the other horses were wandering into the barn. Not a good thing, as they can get out the front door of the barn. I went in and shoo'd them out. By the time I got back to the back door, Janney and Asher had climbed another pile of snow, right in front of the oat bin, and Asher had fallen in. Sahara was headed over towards them.. I called to Janney to pull Asher out of the snow, he was in up to his waist. She couldn't pull him out, so I had to climb the snow and hope not to sink in myself. When I pulled him out, his boots were left behind, so I sat him down, pulled the boots out and was putting them on when I realized the whole herd of horses was going through the barn. I left Asher and Janney and RAN as fast as I could along the outside of the barn to the front door to try to get them turned around.
All but Xanthus turned around and went back out the back door, Xanthus was now free in the yard. I closed the back door to keep the horses from coming back through, but Janney was crying because I had taken off like that, and Asher only had one boot on and was sitting up on top of the snow hill still. I went back to him, got his boot on, and found that Janney had got herself stuck on the barbed wire fence. I went to her to unhook her, and figure out how to put Xanthus back in the corral with the other horses.
I went to the gate to see if I could get it open.. nope, but the top wire was broken, so I thought I'd see if I could just push her through the gate - up over the snow, and over the two bottom wires. I went behind her and started to push her along. She was moving in the right direction, but she got to the gate and turned around instead of going over it. And I fell down when I turned back. UGHH. Pregnant women should not fall down!
Janney came running - "are you alright mama?" - Mummy's are not supposed to be lying on the ground on the snow!
I was able to get up slowly, and as I walked back towards Xanthus, I found a rope. I picked it up and put it around her neck, and was able to walk her through the barn. I had tried earlier to herd her through the barn, but she wouldn't go into the dark barn alone.. with the rope around her neck, I had been able to lead her through. Finally - everyone was back where they were supposed to be!
I brought the kids back into the house, turned on a movie and lay down on the couch for a nap! I locked the door just in case, I didn't want them to go back out while I was napping!
