Egyptian Fairy Tales

Did you know that the original story of Cinderella results from a true Egyptian story? (Scroll past the Croco'nile story).

Well, for an assignment yesterday, I had the boys re-write the story of Little Red Riding Hood in an Egyptian form.  Here are the creative results.  We have not had much experience with "creative" writing, so this was a good activity for us to do.

Rourke (His creativity is good but needs to work on his readability - this story doesn't flow very well..lol)

Egyptian Little Red Riding Hood

In Egyptian Little Red Riding Hood, her name is Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak, and there is a HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG instead of a wolf and she is taking food to The Big Nice Wolf.

Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak is talking medicine to her friend The Big Nice Wolf because he is sick, but she has to go through the scorching hot  part of the desert because it is the fastest way to get there, and she usually goes around that part, but then came along a the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG and Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak asks the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG were The Big Nice Wolf lives because she had never been this way before and the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG says “He lives South from here,” but he sent her the way to HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG’S house, because he wanted to eat her so she goes that way, but when she gets there Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak realizes the house is in the desert still, and she remembers The Big Nice Wolf’s house is not in the desert so she turns around and goes the other way unfortunately the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG comes out of his house and jumps on her unfortunately for him he does not now that Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak is so strong so she picks him up and throws him out of the desert clearing out all the sand and once he is out of a Huge desert sand dune she sees The Big Nice Wolf’s house so she run’s to his house and THINKING it was The Big Nice Wolf’s house she opened the door and then she finds out that it is the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG’S twin brothers house fortunately HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG’S twin brother is the little small nice hog once she finds that out she asks him where The Big Nice Wolf’s house is and the little small nice hog says “oh, yes I do he is a very good friend of mine, he is also my next door neighbor, he lives just around the huge sad dune on the west side of me.” “Thank you,” says Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak, and then she finds his house, but what she doesn’t know is that HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG was listening in on there conversation, and gets to The Big Nice Wolf’s house before Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak does, then HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG locks The Big Nice Wolf up in the pantry fortunately The Big Nice Wolf was able to pick the lock with his teeth, then he threw his teeth (by the way he can take out his teeth and throw them and then he grows new ones instantly) at the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG’S head and killed him once and for al, when Big Strong Blue Draping Cloak came in The Big Nice Wolf asked if she was hungry because The Big Nice Wolf had roasted part the HUGE GINORMUS BAD HOG that he killed, and then Big Strong Blue Draping said “Yes please.” And then they invited the little small nice hog over.

And they all ate happily ever after.

Myjey and the lion

Once upon a time there was a little Egyptian girl named Myjey. One day she was sent by her mother to the palace to bring some medicine to the sick king. She was told not to talk to anyone on the way to the palace. But on the way she took a short cut and met a lion. The Lion wanted to eat her but was too afraid to eat her out in the open, so he asked where Myjey was going with the medicine. Forgetting what her mother said, Myjey answered, “To the king’s palace to help him with his fever.” The Lion suggested that Myjey also picked so herbs for a tea or some other drink. So Myjey found and picked the herbs for a tea, while the Lion raced to the palace. After the Lion snuck to the king’s room’s door, he knocked and the king asked who it was. The Lion clamed it was Myjey, but when the king called him in the Lion sprang upon him and ate him in one bite, then he discussed himself as the sick king and waited for Myjey. When Myjey arrived at the palace, she asked for directions to the king’s room. When she reached the king’s room, she knocked; the Lion asked who it was in a kingly voice. Myjey answered and the Lion called her in. When she finished closing the door, the Lion was already jumping at her. She quickly moved out of the way and the Lion crashed into the door. She ran around the room while the Lion chased her. Meanwhile, outside the room, a guard, not very far away, heard the noise the two were making. He went over to see what was happening and the second the guard opened the door, the Lion ate Myjey in a single gulp. The guard attacked the lion and killed it. He then cut off the Lions head and the king and Myjey came out of the lion’s belly. So from that day on, Myjey never talked to anyone when she was going somewhere.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Netikerty and the crocodile

Once upon a time, there lived a girl named Netikerty. One day her mother told her to go take a cow to her aunt, so that she would have milk. On the way there, she had to cross over the Nile, finding the shallowest crossing possible, so that she would not get swallowed up by it. She found a good spot to cross, where it was not deep, and there wasn’t too much of a current. As she stepped in to cross, a crocodile came up to her and asked her where she was going. Netikerty told the crocodile that she was going to her aunt’s house to give her the cow. “Where does your aunt live?” asked the crocodile. “Right along side the other side of the Nile, about 2 miles south of this very spot.” Replied Netikerty. “I would cross the Nile right across from her house, but I don’t have a raft, and the cow would sink, or get carried away by the current. That is why I have to cross on foot all the way up here.” Now the crocodile was a cunning beast, and it had missed its daily afternoon meal. “Why don’t you take some papyrus to your aunt? She might be able to make a letter thanking your mother. Or maybe some of these lovely lilies that are floating around.” Said the crocodile, trying to find a way of distracting her, so that he could replace the aunt, and eat the cow, for he was very hungry, and the little girl would just not do. “That is a very good idea,” said Netikerty, “I will do that. Good day.” And with that, she started grabbing the lilies. As she was picking the lilies up, the crocodile swam downstream, a huge grin plastered on his face.

Just as Netikerty finished picking the lilies, her cousin, Rameses, came along on the other side of the Nile. Realizing it was Rameses, Netikerty ran across the river, almost letting go of the cow. Rameses decided that he had gone far enough for his walk (for that is what he was doing), that he would walk with her back to his house. Talking as the walked, they did not realize that the whole time the talked, they were giving the crocodile enough time to set up his plan.

The crocodile had found the aunt’s house, and was trying to convince the aunt and her two daughter’s that there were some nice, ripe wild figs growing just down the stream, and that they should go pick some. Just as they had rounded a little bend in the Nile, Netikerty and Rameses came into view. “Just in time.” Thought the crocodile, and he hid behind the house.

Netikerty called out to her aunt, but the crocodile responded, trying to sound like the aunt as best as he could. “I’m behind the house, dears.” Called the crocodile. “That’s odd,” said Rameses, “she’s never called me dear.” “Me either,” Said Netikerty. “That is odd.” Just as they turned the corner of the house, the crocodile leapt at the cow, just missing it. “Dinner is served!” cried the crocodile. Netikerty saw that there was a hoe right be side the house, and grabbed it, but she was not strong enough to hurt the crocodile, just anger it. Just then, Rameses ran out from the house with his father’s hunting bow, and started shooting at the crocodile, and hit him in the leg and the snout. At this, the crocodile lashed out one last time, not caring what he got, just as long as he got something, but just as he opened his mouth, an arrow went right in to the back of his mouth, killing him instantly. Just then, Netikerty’s aunt and cousins came back around the bend, for they had heard all the commotion, and were amazed at what they saw. Her aunt was grateful that they were safe, and thanked Netikerty for the cow, and they all lived happily ever after.
