Big Storm

Last night we had a very heavy storm move in very quickly and then move out just as quickly. Myles and Trent decided to get some photographs and videos.

Aren't these scary skies!

And here's a video clip of the down pour rains and hail.  Look at the trees shake!  The rain lasted like this for about 6-7 minutes.  And now the driveway is thick with muddy clay - what a mess.

And this is the sad aftermath of such a storm. These two baby birds and nest were thrown from the tree, and landed right at my back door.  I had to explain to Janney that sometimes when it rains so hard, baby birds get wet and cold and can't get warmed up again, and then they probably got hurt in the fall too. She wanted to know where the mommy bird was. How sad, I bet mama will take a day to assess the situation and then build a new nest and raise a new clutch of eggs, and hopefully get her next set fledged before the fall comes.

Fortunately our barn swallows have chosen a nice protected place.  Can you see the baby birds all puffed over the top of the nest?  When mama or papa come, they do a little fly by, and the babies all excited and open up their mouths for mama and papa to deposit a bug or two in.  I wonder how they keep track of who's been fed and who still needs feeding. There's six babies in that shallow nest!

I think we got hit by that same weather front on Thursday in the Twin Cities. I had to pull off the road because I couldn't see. The wind was so high I thought the van might be blown over.
