Design Specs For The New Kitchen

Here are the design specs for the new kitchen.  As I was "dreaming up" this kitchen, I realized that the colour scheme I was dreaming up was the complete reverse from the kitchen. i wanted the colours from the flooring of the livingroom on the walls in the kitchen, and I wanted the colours from the walls in the livingrom on the floors in the kitchen...

So, visuallize with me..
Maple cabinetry in a Shaker style - Mine are not quite like this, I have not chosen any with glass doors, and my cupboards do not have any drawers at the top of the stack, only cupboard.. and other stacks have 4 drawers . I have some cabinets that are floor to ceiling, others are cabinet and counter and then cabinets above.  I have chosen to have a wall oven and a cook stove, not a range unit.
My flooring will be  Tarkett Alamo Stone in the Dark Rust colourway. It's a glueless floating floor, their highest quality product.

I want Behr's Hawiian Cinder for paint on the walls. This computer version is not exactly the same, but you get the idea.

And Formica's Colorado Slate for counter tops, with a slate tile edge and backsplash

There will be two pocket doors from the mudroom in the east and from the livingroom in the west..

For lighting, though my Facebook Friends all gave me discouragement on halogen lighting, I have decided to go with it none-the less.. sorry friends, it's not that I don't trust your judgement, it's that given my choices.. this was just affordable and stilish enough and the dealer gave me a tip about changing the bulbs, put a piece of masking tape on the bulb to give it a bit of grip!  I'm have two of these, but without the lengthening rods, they'll be shorter and closer to the ceiling, not hanging like this.

and I'll have this one above the sink

Now for appliances, I've chosen Maytag products.. for which I can't grab pictures, so, if you're interested, follow these links to the Microwave/vent, wall oven, dishwasher and Cook top.  All my appliances will have a white finish to go with my existing two white fridges. I still have to choose door handles and a sink and tap...

but, before we do that, we'll have to figure out what to do with the ceiling.. when we took down the ceiling, we found that the rafters had been cut, and so, before we cover them up, we have to fix this structural problem..
those dark rafters are cut and intersected by this light coloured beam....it's not structurally sound and needs to be fixed

I love everything that you've chosen--your kitchen is going to be gorgeous! The cabinet and wall colors remind me of my friend Lorraine's new kitchen (and it is really beautiful). Your kitchen will be a warm, beautiful, functional, and inviting space. Those pocket doors are fabulous--I wish I had some between my front room and my school room.

Love you!
Susan
