Elias' Quilt

Posted in Elias
I'm working on a denim rag quilt for Elias. I've got everything cut out at this point, but making the effort to get the sewing machine out and start sewing has not quite happen yet.

The look I'm going for is this, see how the edges are raggy.. and some of the blocks are post and rail  (slim rectangles to make up a square)

Here's my fabrics all layed out.

Little Blue Baby

Posted in Elias
Elias found a squirt bottle with some blue dye for tie dying in it. I was taking a nap and I heard Stuart yell. I got up, went to find out and found Stuart holding this blue baby while Myles wiped up the dye from the new kitchen floor. I picked up Elias and put him in a bath.. but didn't get pics when he was all blue on his hands and feet and mouth, but this is what he looked like during his SECOND bath that day.. I believe there were three that day.

What's For Dinner Mom?

Posted in Elias
I often wonder whether my kids are just too fussy when it comes to the meals I make. I mean, I put in lots of variety, lots of good flavours and textures. I even allow the occasional canned meal - you know Alphagetties or pizza pocket or chicken nuggets.

But really, is my cooking so bad that he has to resort to this?

He looks so pleased with himself

A One Year Old

Posted in Elias
Elias turned 1 yesterday, but I didn't have a camera available; my batteries were dead, Trent's camera didn't have batteries because they were in Rourke's Camera, which went to work with Myles, and Myles camera is still in transit on it's way home from camp.. poor lonely camera, taking the long way home, via Saskatoon...

Anyhow, as a result, there are no BIRTHDAY pictures, but he's still a year old today.

His birthday was just family, Trent and Myles had a Frizbee game in the city after work, so they were home just before bedtime, and brought some presents - Tonka trucks!  Gramma sent the cutest farm truck with little animals and farm sounds.. and of course there's money to spend on him from other relatives.  I made cake.. and Janney  has now learned about why NOT to open the oven door while cake is baking.

And so, here are some beautiful pictures of my messy faced smiley boy.

And these are my others sweet loved ones

Thems Boots Were Made For Walking

Posted in Elias
Oh Elias, those are some big boots, and some wonderful boots to follow the footsteps of..

Raising a large family seems overwhelming to some people, how could one mother tend to so many needs. The beauty of a large family is that one mother doesn't tend to ALL the needs. The mother of a large family is a director, an orchestrator, a team coach.  Sure there are some things only I can tend to, but so many things I can delegate.

One of the wonderful outcomes of delegating is that mentoring happens.  I showed you a few days ago a video of the little ones helping with the laundry. That's a result of me delegating, and the boys mentoring.

One day Elias too will participate in chores.  For now, he's got some big boots to fill.

Ring Around The Rosy

Posted in Elias
A few little Elias stories.

Janney, Asher and Elias were playing ring around the rosy, and Elias is getting the concept, he's crouching down when the kids say fall down.  Too cute.

My little walking man is really progressing in leaps and strides.  After the weekend in Edmonton, in the sling almost the whole time, it seemed he had regressed a little, but then he started to walk longer and longer distances. Last night Stuart watched him start at the mudroom end of the kitchen, walk towards him, stop at a piece of wood, crouch down, pick it up and progress to the livingroom door.  He's getting stronger and is managing his balance better, stopping to gain his balance, or speeding up so as not to fall.

Elias loves the bathroom. The joy of playing in the toilet, or with the plunger or with the garbage is unsurpassed.. the final straw was finding him in the shower eating soap. I have put up the baby gate in front of the bathroom now, and we all have to climb over to use the loo.

Unsurpassed? well.. maybe playing with the hammer or rubber mallet  or drill is better than the toilet..

And going outside is a real treat, the trampoline is lots of fun, to a point. He loves to crawl on the tramp, but then Janney and Asher come along and make popcorn out of him and he flattens to his tummy and endures the ride, until he's had enough and calls out for help. But he always goes back with a smile..

Can't wait for some really warm weather to make outside play the staple around here!!

Doing The Wave

Posted in Elias
Elias, now 3 weeks later, is much sturdier on his feet, and does quite a bit of traveling along the furniture. Last night we captured a new skill on video, Elias doing the wave.

A friend in service asked if Elias was going to be another linebacker... Yes sir! He's rough and tumble just like Asher. Speaking of Crasher Asher - that boy has stepped up his crashing, he is Go Go Go from the moment he wakes - I can't wait til spring so he can RUN OUTSIDE!
