Confetti

I've told you before about the little goodnight game Janney and I play, well, the game continues and morphs as it goes. Today the game went like this.

J: Mummy, I love you the stars
M: I love you twinkles
Janney smiles
M: I love you shimmer
Bigger smiles
M: I love you sparkles
More smiles
M; I love you confetti
J: What's confetti?

So I took out the three hole punch that has a catcher at the bottom, opened it up, poured the dots into my hand and threw them over her head. That's confetti!

She loved it, she gathered up the dotes and threw a few handfuls before going to bed.   They're still on my floor, but what's a little mess when you know you've sent your princess to bed with a big smile and confetti in her hair.

Day At The Spa

I needed a shower this aft, so I invited Janney to come have a "day at the spa" with me.  We got our dressing gowns and clean fresh towels and lit candles in the bathroom and got out all the nice smelling body lotions and body washes and puffy scrubbers. We locked the door so no stinky smelly boys could invade our time... and into the shower we hopped. Nice hot water, nice fresh clean hair, and nice soft skin... not to mention, the towel piled on top of our heads. A perfect interlude for the afternoon.
We girls gotta stick together in this house full of men!

A Family of Grand Adventurers

Trent is home from a  great and harrowing adventure in Moose Hunting. He's got a blog post on his MySpace, so I'll have to grab it an post it here for you all to read later (he's out fixing the fence line right now)

BUT

While the boys were doing school today, and I was washing dishes with Elias asleep on my back, Janney and Asher went outside to play. I thought they were going to jump on the trampoline, but I never did see that tramp bounce once.  I started to wonder, and so went out for a peek. They were just coming home - yes, just coming home. That implies that they LEFT HOME to start with.

They went for a walk in the woods.

For you city folk, imagine if your 4 and 2 year old went down the road past about 5-7 houses, then went around the end of the lake, up over a hill and went into the woods - that's how far they were from my house..

When Trent was little, he wasn't allowed to cross the road by himself until he was 5, but because Rourke was 3.5 years behind him, and they were doing things together, Rourke learned to cross the road by himself by the time he was 3, and so it goes with Janney and Asher. While I wouldn't normally suggest that anyone allow their 4 and 2 year old to travel so far away alone... they were only doing what big brothers have shown them to do.

I did tell Janney that next time, I just want her to let me know she's going to the woods first, so that I don't get worried if I don't see them in the yard.

And then I'll know to pray too!

Oct. 7, 2008 - Mmmmm - that reminds me....

Posted by Mum (76.69.249.86)
Once there was a little girl who went to a friend's house and then they went to another friend's house etc, etc, etc. They all deserted her at a stranger's house, but she was so clever she knew just how to get home. It was such a long way and she was so tired and frightened that she was bawling her eyes out.

There was also a little girl who decided to push her big sister in a wheel chair all the way to Nana's house...

Your littles must have learned to be adventurers from their own Mummy. :-)

I'm glad they survived their excursion without any problems.

Cleaning Janney's Kitchen

I wish it were so easy....

I decided to swap some toys. Rourke took some of the toys that the kids weren't playing with and put them in the basement, and brought up Janney's kitchen. It was all dirty from being outside earlier this summer, and it was full of spiders from being in the basement for the last few months.  It had to be cleaned before we could put it in the livingroom. I pondered a minute to decide what was the easiest way to clean it.. and I came up with... Put it in the bathtub, I'll hose it down!

Rourke plonked it in the bathtub.. and yes, it fit. I used the hose extension to hose it down, then gave it a bit of a scrub, and used a paintbrush in the tiny corners. I chased away all the spiders and cob webs and then gave it another rinse.. turned it around to get the barbeque side, and voila - a clean kitchen. It took me about 15 minutes to have it completely cleaned. I so wish my kitchen only took 15 minutes to get spotless!

Janney and Asher took no time to get involved in cooking and barbequing - even while it was still in the bathroom, with no room to manouver around it.. lol.

Meanwhile, my kitchen looked like this.. think I could take a hose to it and come up with a clean kitchen in 15 minutes?

A Riding Lesson

Trent saddled up Rimmon today and got Janney all geared up for a lesson, he even tied her hair in a pony tail to keep it out of her face.  I went to get the camera, but then I ended up being the one to lead Rimmon around.  We tried to get Janney to let go of the reins and hold her hands out to learn to balance, and look through Rimmon's ears - but it took both Trent and I to do that, so there's no photos of that part.

Yes, that's Elias in the sling on my back, he's asleep.

After Janney's little ride, Trent actually did some training with Rimmon.
He tied her reign slightly tight on one side to train her to turn around to the left, then to the right.  See how she can't straighten her neck in this next photo.. this makes her walk in a circle.

Later Trent got on her back and I lead her along and he taught her foot and voice commands - to walk and to stop.  She's a pretty smart little filly, very willing.

Burr-doo

The boys are outside building some rope climbing bridges across the weed filled patch where the fruit trees used to grow.  Janney went out to investigate their activities. While in the weed patch, she lay down in the tall tall weeds... and came up with a burr-doo.  What's a burr-doo? That's a hairdo all done up with little tiny sticky burr seeds. These aren't the big ones from the burdock plant, no, that would be too easy to get out of here hair. Nope, these were little tiny sticky seeds about the size of a mustard seed, and she had a good hundred or so all in the top of her head.

Now Janney doesn't like her hair brushed on a good day, so this was not something I was looking forward to fixing. I didn't want to listen to her screaming and whining. Turns out it wasn't such a noisy job, she was pretty good about it, but hoo boy did it take a while to get every single green sticky seed out.  Hope she doesn't do that again.

A Good Day For An Empty Nest

Janney was playing with that train set on the floor, when she noticed all the little baby birds out on the fence. She ran to get daddy, who came to get me, and I got the camera.

They all sat out there calmly as I took photos, I even saw a parent give a baby a nice little fly for snack.

Then Janney went and touched the fence, giving it a gentle shake and two flew off. I waited, hoping they'd come back, but the two baby birds and mama and papa flew around and around.

Eventually Asher walked up to the fence and put his hands up to see the baby birds, and one by one, they flew away as his hands got closer.  Now we've got an empty nest,

I don't imagine they'll ever all come back, I expect mum and dad will have to keep track of them and teach them to find the bugs.  But it sure was fun watching.  I first posted June 23, and there were eggs in the nest then. It's July 17 today, that means it was less than 3 weeks from egg to fledge.

Now if only I could get my little baby bird to fledge from my womb nest, then we'd all be happy!!

More Baby Birds

Those baby birds are getting bigger, and mom and dad don't look like they'll be renovating the house any time soon to accommodate them. They'll just have to learn to fly soon.  Mom and dad have been flying back and forth non-stop, I sure hope mom and dad are getting enough to eat.

This is them a few days ago.

This is them today (Sorry the picture is fuzzy) You can count 5 in this photo. They look like they're about to jump out.

Janney and Asher have been junior naturalists watching all the growing.

Unfortunately, yesterday Janney climbed up the ladder to have a looksy, but the mom and dad have been perching on the ladder too, and the ladder was full of mites. Janney was stuck up there screaming because the little mites were crawling all over her biting her. Daddy had to go out and bring her down, and I spent the next 10 minutes searching all over her body for these itty bitty black moving specks that were biting occasionally.  The bite didn't last, but I had a few on me, and I could see why Janney was screaming.

Natural climbers!!

What a mess their making too!  This is the poop pile.

Another Funny

We went to the beach this afternoon.. just for something to do. Everyone was board and going stir crazy and whining, so we just went.

On the way home, the kids were getting loud and physical in the back seat, and I was getting frustrated by the noise again. I used my "put your hands on your lap, close your eyes, close your mouth and don't say anything until we get home" command, but Janney and Asher are still a little young to comply with that command yet.

So Rourke says to Janney, "Let's play a game, let's see who can be the quietest. First person to speak loses.  Ready on your marks, get set, go!"

Janney is silent all of 1 maybe 2 seconds, and then pipes in "No, let's play a different game, let's play hide and seek. You count"  We all burst into peels of laughter. How can you play hide and seek in the car?

Rourke covers his eyes and counts, and Janney tucks her head under his arm. Rourke finishes counting and looks out the window, and finally swings slowly around the car and then finds Janney hidden behind his arm.. all of us are roaring with laughter.

So then Janney starts to count, Rourke pushes her forward, and hides his head behind Janney. Asher calls out "Dere he is" when Janney stops counting, then he starts counting too.

I can't believe how hard we all laughed over this silly game of hide and seek in the backseat of the car, everyone remained buckled in their seats.
