More of Him - Less of Me

• Feb. 28, 2008 - Preparing for company

I've been up since 5:00 am (unheard of for me!!) because my sister and her hubby are arriving today for a visit.  They will only be here a few hours so why is it that I feel I must clean my house from top to bottom - you know, corners, drawers - all those places that people look at.    Yeah, right.  I doubt my sister is even concerned with my drawers!  It's just a compulsion, I guess.  I'm exhausted all ready and it's only 6:30 am.  I want to get done as early as possible, though, so I can relax before they arrive.  The worst area is my homeschooling area, which is in my kitchen.  It's really messy with books, papers and all that stuff.  You know - you have the same stuff to deal with.  I always think my house looks pretty good until I know someone is coming for a visit.  Then I look at it with new eyes.  The piles of books and papers that don't bother me or my family, suddenly look unorganized and messy.  I try really hard to keep up, but honestly, we are a book loving family (especially me!) and if I find a used book that looks good, I buy it.  Someday, I hope to have a real library in my home.  Until that time, they are pretty much everywhere on every shelf available in every room.

Yesterday I went to get a new Agatha Christie book.  My son loves her books (especially Hercule Poirot) and we always read the book together so we can discuss it.  I didn't realize they had changed the names of some of her books.  In very, very small print on the cover (which I didn't see until I got home), it says "formerly published as . . ."  No wonder I had a horrible time finding the book that he is reading and the others he has.  I had to end up going to Barnes and Nobles to find anything.  Now I'm sure the other book store I go to probably had some but since they have different titles, I didn't find them.  Why in the world do they do that?  It's so confusing!!

Well, I'm sitting here staring at the papers, books, etc., that need to be dealt with so will sign off.  Hope you have a wonderful and blessed day!!

                              God bless you ~ Julie

You are funny! I say next time throw it all in a basket and hide it away. It'll look clean enough for a few hour visit! I hope you enjoyed your time with your sister.

Hope you have a great visit!

We like to call the book/papers look "casual chic".

About Me

I am a homeschooling Mom who wants to be more like Jesus and less like me! I have been homeschooling for 9 years and am savoring the last 2 1/2 years I have left of this incredible homeschooling journey. My prayer is that I will be a blessing to others in this life and to our Lord, Jesus Christ.
