Who's Responsible for our Children?

Posted in Parenting
Sometimes the responsibility of motherhood comes heavy upon me.  I wonder how I can raise Godly children in today's world.  All around us the devil has set up traps to catch the attention of our children and draw them away from God.  It seems that the temptations focus on young people are stronger then before.

Thinking of this, Jesus brought a promise to me during my quiet time with Him this morning.  Isaiah 29: 22-24.  It is a wonderful promise.

"No longer will Jacob [mothers?] be ashamed; no longer will their faces grow pale.  When they see among them their children, the work of My hands, they will keep My name holy; they will acknowledge the holiness of the Holy One of Jacob, and will stand in awe of the God of Israel.  Those who are wayward in spirit will gain understanding; those who complain will accept instruction."

Our children are the work of God's hands.  God is more responsible for the outcome of my children then I am.  I am only a tool in God's hands.   God says that the wayward will gain understanding, and the complainers will stop complaining and accept instruction.  He is so good.  I rest in Him today.

May. 6, 2007 - I sympathize

I was reading random blogs and came across yours, and read your thoughts on raising children in the world as it is today. I have been thinking about that a lot lately, too, and it is such a concern. I have three boys, ages 14, 12, and almost 11. My fourteen year old sometimes seems drawn to the more worldly things, like harder rock music and edgy clothing, etc. I worry about him so much sometimes, and wonder what I did wrong to cause him to "turn out like this!" But you said what I finally realized, that it is up to God how each child will turn out, and we can only do our job as He enables us. I pray for my son to be saved (he thinks he is, but I don't think he is yet, based on many heart attitudes that I see and other things) and I pray that the Spirit will draw him! In this world, it's much easier for the fleshly things to draw them in, it seems. I am so thankful that he is homeschooled, or I think it would be even more entrenched in him, this worldliness! At home there are more chances for him to hear about the Lord and to be out of more sinful situations.
Anyway, just wanted to say I am right here in the trenches with you; we'll just pray all we possibly can for these children, right? :)
God bless your day,
