My Thai Friend

I just discovered that on this old computer, I have access to some old photos from back when we first started using digital cameras, and fancy camera to two megapixel photos.

I thought I'd introduce you to my Thai friends.  The last time I saw her was almost 5 years ago, about the time I took this photo.  The first time I met her was about 16 years ago, or so, when I was fresh out of college.  I had gone to Thailand to work for a couple years.  She was a secretary at the language school where I worked part time, and she was really nice.  I had an apartment nearby and so did she.  I had a kitchen, and she didn't.  She would just go out on the street and buy some food every day to eat.  This isn't as bad as it sounds, because you can get good food for cheep out there.  It is what lots of people do there.  But she was also a good cook and could make many wonderful Thai foods.  I wanted to learn how to cook Thai style, so we would go to the market.  She taught me how to shop, what different foods were, how to bargain, and how to get the right bus back home.  I would pay for the food.  At my apartment we would make a feast, and invite people over to eat.  It was so much fun!  We really had a good time together.

Many years later, when I married, we went to Thailand for our honey moon, and I was able to see her again.  Then when my first baby was born, I gave my little sweetie her name.  Once, she even was able to save up enough Thai baht to fly to the United States!  She knows lots of people here, because of her job at the language school, but she chose to come and stay with us.  We gave her the best time we could, and of course, we cooked Thai food together, and had a feast, inviting over people to eat with us.

All these years later, she still works at the same language school.  She is older, but so am I.  It has been 5 years since I saw her last, but every year, I long to go back and see her.  The only problem is now all of us need full price airline seats and that's quite a chunk of money for a one income family.

Mom Is Strong and Well

My mom and dad were able to come for a visit this past weekend.  For those of you where are following my blog, you will know this is really good news.  This means that my mom was strong enough to make the trip.  She was quite excited to come.  She came in strong with tears of joy in her eyes.  She looks good, and we are so very glad, praising God for what he has done for her.  We had a nice time together the whole weekend.

At home it was decided that she wouldn't work full time again at the deli.  They had already figured out how to do fine without her.  She goes in for only about an hour a day and takes orders during the lunch rush.  She picks up groceries for the deli, runs errands, and walks every day.

We are praying that someone is going to come and buy the deli soon so mom and dad can be fully retired and free to move closer to us.  (Want to buy a great deli?)

Meema has Come to Stay

It has been a long week.  I have lots to share, but very little time.  My mom , we call her Meema, was in the hospital part of last week, and was moved to our home this morning.  She is very weak, and needs help with most every bodily function.  Being in the hospital wore her out.  It is going to take her time to recover the strength she had.  But God is blessing.  I sense Him working in her.  I am praying for her, out loud, as I care for her.  One time her blood pressure was really high, after I prayed, it went down.  Another time she was able to relax when she needed some personal care.  She is hardly able to swallow food or water, so I am praying for healing of whatever is going on in her throat.  She is eating so little, and needs more nutrition for healing.

It looks like the road to wellness is going to be slow and steep.  She may have to be here for a long time.  Sadly dad has to stay back and work.  But he will come here on Wednesday night to spend Thanksgiving with us.

It is a big change for our family.  The kids are doing their best to talk quietly, even though it is very hard for them.  They are patient, so far, with the attention I am having to give Meema, but I don't know how patient they will be as the days stretch on.

We've moved everything out of our centrally located school room, and into the living room.  And I moved our futon into the school room for her, added a memory foam pad, and then decorated the room as soothingly as I could with the supplies I had on hand.

She is resting now in her recliner.   I wish for her to find Jesus as her closest friend through this.  I've asked Jesus to give her healing sleep and rest tonight.

Prayers for Mom

I'm back from visiting my mom.  She is getting slightly better, but is still experiencing health issues that are keeping her tired and weak and in her favorite recliner chair.  I've got her drinking green smoothies to increase her nutrition intake.  Sisters are checking in on her and dad is there when he isn't at work.  She is hoping to be caring for her clients again in a couple weeks.  I hope that she is right.

Please pray for my mom.

Thanks,
Elizabeth Joy

Prayer for My Mom

I found out this evening that my mom is having some health problems and needs someone to come cook for her and help her.  I'm concerned about the little I do know but will know more details by the time when I get back.  I think there is more going on there then meets the eye.  I think she really needs prayer.  I don't know how long it will be until I am able to blog again.

Thanks for praying for her.  Her body is ailing and I hope she can be restored to good health, but please especially pray for healing of heart and mind.

My Dear Sir Henry

My honey is back home.  I call him Sir Henry on this blog.  He is such a dear husband.  We had such a hard time with him gone the last two and a half days.  Our routine flew away.  The kids missed their daddy much!   Forest was so sad that he didn't have time to call more then once.  But now he is home.  He got home late last night.  There was such joy and excitement when the kids came bursting in our room to see if daddy was home this morning.  Squeals of delight were heard as they tumbled onto the bed for hugs and kisses and to hear all about daddy's trip.

In honor of our sweet reunion, I am posting my favorite photo from this summer of my dear Sir Henry.  It was taken after several days of tent camping in Yellowstone National Park.

Fancy Fruit Creations

Recently we attended a wonderful birthday party for one of my husband's friends.  It was a family oriented party with fun for the adults and kids.  I thought some of you might like to learn about the fun food that was served for supper.  The mom had cut up fruit, set out bowls of nuts, a jar of peanut butter, coconut, some dried fruit, rice cakes, and other interesting items, all to be used by the guests to make a creation that reminded them of something in nature or something in the Bible.

The object of the game was to make something, get it photographed, then you could eat it.  Here are some of the results.

Triangle man with an owl in the background.

A happy person.

A horse.

Fruit - A - Gator!

And finally "Ride 'em Cowboy"

Fragrent Lavender Roses

My friend came to visit for a meal a few weeks ago.  She is a such a wonderful person, and I enjoy talking with her so much. When she came, she brought me some freshly picked lavender roses from her very own bush by the front steps.  These roses were not only beautiful, they smelled heavenly, as only a fragrent rose can.  And they matched perfectly the rose on the cup sitting by the sink.  That cup became their vase and they brightened up my room for several days to come.

Fun times with Grandpa

We spent the last two weeks away from home again. My husband got a surprise, spur of the moment, out of town job, and within two hours we were on the road. The kids and I spent the first three days at the hotel, in the pool, and exploring the area. We had some fun times, but hotel time while daddy is gone working gets old. So when the weekend came we went to my parents house about 1 1/2 hours further down the road. Nothing boring was happening there. Every afternoon, my dad took the kids down to the local swimming hole to play for a couple hours. They went just below the swimming hole, away from the people, and made sort of a chute from the rocks to channel the water flow that they rode float tubes through, again and again and again. I went down and watched for a while, but decided not to stay so that it would be a special time between my kids and their Papa (grandpa). So much fun was happening that I have this feeling that when the kids are grown up, and they think back and remember Papa, they will think fondly of tubing on the river with him when they were kids. He used to be too busy with work to spend time doing things like this, but now that he is retired, there is more free time available. I am so glad he is still strong and healthy and able to get out in the river and have fun with my 9 year old and 6 year old.

When I was a little girl, I remember going out to the garden and seeing all the growing things with my great grandpa (my dad's grandpa). There was corn, and grapes, potatoes and raspberries and more. I remember his big smile and jolly laugh. He was special to me. I knew he loved me. I still miss him.

With my grandpa (my dad's dad), I remember riding around on his big riding lawn mower around his big yard on his lap while he mowed the big, big lawn. I remember being pushed in his swing that hung from the big spruce tree in his big yard. He was busy a lot of the time, working or fixing things, but he still found time to sneak my sister and I off to A&W for a junior cone that cost 10 cents. I don't eat ice cream anymore, but I am so thankful for those special little cones and the time I spent with my grandpa.

I am wondering if you have any special grandpa memories. Is your dad doing anything special with your kids? Feel free to leave me a comment or even write about grandpa on your blog.

Joyful news! My Friend is Pregnant!

My girlfriend just called me with the best news. She is pregant! Sometimes we take pregnancy for granted. Sometimes pregnancies aren't wanted. But this one is wanted and is possible only by modern medicine through a true miracle of God. There are tears of joy in my heart and eyes as I type. My heart is overflowing with love and prayer for those two little babies she is carrying.

May they always know how loved they are and never feel rejected. And may God bless them with health and strength and a strong relationship with Him. May their parents have the wisdom and strength they need every day to guide them in the right path and raise them for Him. Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow!

May God help all those other mothers who are still longing for a baby of their own, and speedily answer their prayers.
