Parents, Teachers, ESL
Teachers, Grandparents, and Tutors:
You
are invited to a two-day Spell to Write and Read (SWR) Course! Spell
to Write and Read is a proven method of curing dyslexia, preventing dyslexia,
and helping students of all abilities to excel in reading and spelling. It is
used nationally and internationally in homeschools, private and public schools,
and tutoring with students of all ages.
In this SWR
Basic Course you
will gain an overview of the program, its methodologies, and historical background.
For the greater part of the course you (the teacher/mom) will be taught as if
you were the child learning from scratch. This experience with you being
the student will help you to better understand SWR and give you the confidence and
ability to teach your own children/students with SWR.
The
SWR Basic Course is two days, 16 hours in length, and taught by Britta
McColl, Endorsed SWR Trainer. The
registration fee is $100. After the completion of this two-day course and
completing a simple take-home test, you can request a certificate of completion
that will verify that you have had 16 clock hours of continuing education.

Information about the
Cochrane, Wisconsin area:
1. Cochrane is a 30
minutes drive from the Little House in the Big Woods homestead and Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Pepin, Wisconsin. Families coming to the course
can visit this historic site while mom/teacher attends the course. (There is
even a trundle bed for smaller children to lie down in and have their picture
taken!)

2. Cochrane, like
Pepin, is in the Mississippi River valley. There are many charming cabins within an 8 mile radius of
Cochrane for families to rent and make part of their summer vacation
plans. Dad and kids could swim or fish while mom was at the SWR course.
Boating on the river is beautiful with several islands to explore.
3. There is a nice
public park and swimming pool in
Cochrane. If you come as a family, Dad could play and swim there with
kids during the course. There is an old time grocery store complete with
fabric and dry goods in Cochrane.
4. There are towns
on either side of Cochrane that are right on the river and extremely scenic:
- Alma, 8 miles north of Cochrane, is a beautiful river town with a view
of the Mississippi River from all parts of town. There are bed
and breakfasts in the towns
where a person could stay for a reasonable price. One sweet place if you
are alone or with a small family is a darling brick bed and breakfast
(Laue House Inn, 608-685-4923) overlooking the Mississippi River and the
charge is only $35 a night. There are many interesting shops and
restaurants in Alma. To see a
picture of Alma and find out about more places to stay and/or eat go to: http://www.almawisconsin.com/
- Fountain City is 8 Miles south of Cochrane and has many
beautiful sites as well. To
find out more go to: http://rhometown.com/about/about.cfm?city_id=CI00025540
For you campers, Merrick
State Park is only 5 miles from
Cochrane also on the Mississippi River. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/regions/wcr/merrick.html
5. The National Eagle
Center in Wabasha, Minnesota is a 30
minutes drive from Cochrane. Currently there are three live eagles at the
center and you are able to get very close to them and watch volunteers feed
them. http://www.nationaleaglecenter.org/
Ten minutes from the
National Eagle Center is Lark Toys with an old fashioned carousel with hand
carved animals. http://www.larktoys.com/carousel.html
6. Christ Lutheran Church and School in Cochrane is
hosting the course and will generously allow us to use their brand new community
room that will seat
between 50-75 people! If
you decide to bring your family to the Cochrane area for the course there is a
very friendly playground on the grounds of this Church/School where your kids
could play while dad supervised.
Please let me know by
e-mail if you are interested in attending this seminar in scenic Cochrane,
Wisconsin!
