The
Greek Phonogram Bingo
game is a fun way to master the Greek alphabet phonetically and check for
understanding.
This Greek
Phonogram Bingo
set created by my son, Peter McColl, includes 10 Bingo Cards printed on high
quality card stock paper. Card
numbers 1 and 1A have the first part of the Greek Alphabet in lower case
letters. Cards 2 and 2A have the
second part of the Greek Alphabet in lower case letters. Cards 3 and 3A have the first part of
the Greek Alphabet in upper case letters, Cards 4 and 4A have the second part
of the Greek Alphabet in upper case letters. Cards 5 and 5A conclude with the most common Greek
diphthongs (two letters which make up one speech sound.)

How to
Play:
You, the
teacher, call out the sound/s a Greek letter or diphthong makes, your kids echo
you, and place a marker on the correct letter.
For an
extra fun game you can use edible markers such as peanuts, M & Ms, or
carrot rounds. When the game is
over, they eat the markers!
Non-edible markers such as dried beans or pennies can also be used. We generally play cover-all Bingo
where you cover the entire card.
But you could also play to cover 4 corners or one row.
After
playing Bingo give a Greek Phonogram quiz on the letters or diphthongs that
were on that days Bingo card. A
phonogram quiz is where you, the teacher, say the sounds a Greek letter or
diphthong makes and your child writes the letter/diphthong down on paper while
saying the sound/s out loud. If your children are unsure of what the letters
are for the quiz you can set the bingo card in their view to prompt them. After a few days, do the same quiz without the bingo card. This will really cement the learning!
Permission:
When you
purchase this set of Greek Phonogram Bingo cards you are given permission to
photocopy as many as you need for your entire family or classroom. The existing set you purchase has
enough cards for a two-player game.
Happy
gaming with Greek letters!
