Endless gifts

Posted in blessings
I've posted previously about my 1000 Things  for which to be thankful  here  and    here.   However, I really slacked off in posting any more "things".  Until now...I have been inspired yet  again by Ann at   Holy Experience.   And  so I have created my own homekeeping/gratitude journal.

If I can do this any one can.   I challenge you to start your own "Endless List" or add to the one you've already started.  Check out Ann's blog, drop her a line , and be added to the "Endless List" blogroll.

If we "...seek the things that are  above"  and  " set our minds on things that are above and not on things that are on earth..."~ Colossians 3:1-2~ then we will be living indeed!

Amos 5:8

Posted in blessings
I have a habit of walking out my front door and down my driveway and gazing up at the night skies pondering what wonders the Lord has wrought. I am fascinated by the skies and the constellations. I try to discern from amidst the light pollution that floods my community as many celestial bodies as I can. I know Mars when I see it and Venus, too. I can point out the Pleiades and Orion and Cassiopeia. And I can easily spot the Big Dipper, although I have NEVER been able to find the Little Dipper.
I am not sure when this habit of mine formed. Most likely during those many nights of walking and cradling restless wee chicks in my arms; "Look...can you see the moon? When the moon is out it is night time. Do you want to go night, night? Say 'night, night, Mr. Moon'." And even now as those restless nights are getting fewer and farther between I sometimes find myself alone, gazing at the moon and the stars. Tonight was different though...I had company. Not the wakeful babe-in-arms kind of company. No, tonight my two eldest daughters joined me...and we searched the heavens together, my arms encircling their shoulders as I pointed out to them Saggitarius and Scorpius--two constellations I only just "found" this evening. My excitement apparently rubbed off on them for they ran inside to consult "Find the Constellations" and "The Stars" (both by H.A. Rey of Curious George fame) to see what else they could find.
It was one of those moments that makes my heart sing...surely if they attended school elsewhere this would not have happened--what reason would I have for owning the books I do on constellations and the night skies--they were all purchased our first year of home-schooling when the Boy was just a 1st grader and we decided to followthe recommendations from "The Well Trained Mind". We've only briefly looked through them on occasion all these years...but tonight there was a connection made between my daughters and those books; they will be "friends" for life. And a connection was made between my daughters and me; something a bit different from mom the teacher and daughters the students. Something special and full of wonderment...and for that I am eternally grateful.

Make a wish and blow out the candle!!

Posted in blessings
Today is the littlest chick's very first birthday...and it is the very last 1st birthday of one of my chicks that I'll ever celebrate. So in honor of this momentous day in our family the older chicks and I took advantage of Babycake's nap time and created this:Birthday train
in her honor!

1000 Things, part 2

Posted in blessings
OK, OK, I know it's been a long time since my last entry but that is not to say I don't have anything to be thankful for...on the contrary it is the very things that I'm thankful for that caused my self imposed hiatus...so here it goes:

4. family visiting for the holidays and beyond

5. a quick resolution by the other driver's insurance company to a car accident

6. no injuries from the above mentioned car accident

7. the slow progression of my mother's terminal illness

8. a doctor who finally was able to get my mom on oxygen

9. an 8 year old daughter not afraid to witness to her ailing, stubborn grandmother

10. my almost 13 year old son not afraid to scrub floors or do laundry because his mom physically can't

11. big brother getting fussy baby to laugh...when no-one else can

12. 3 year old daughter singing "Rock of Ages" along with a Chris Rice CD
13. 8 year old daughter asking over and over to listen to "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" and knowing the words

14. an alomost 13 year old son who still listens to "Jonathan Park" from Vision Forum
15. Vision Forum for producing the Jonathan Park CD's

16. an 11 daughter who loves to bless our family with from scratch scones

17. an 11 year old daughter who loves to cook dinner especially when I can't

18. an 8 year old daughter who delights in setting a beautiful table every day

19. best friends for my girls

20. a best friend for my son

21. a husband who knows a toaster in not a "good appliance" Christmas gift but that a pannini grill is

22. a husband that doesn't get upset when he gets home from work and the house is a wreck, there's no dinner waiting for him and the bambinos and his wife are crying ...he loves us all anyways

23. an always cold husband who sits for hours in a freezing ice rink watching his only son play hockey...just like he did...because I can't

24. a husband who does the dishes and gives the babies their baths so that my hands don't crack and bleed from being in too much water all the time

25. having my family, my in-laws and my mom together for Christmas dinner for the first time in my married life

1000 things for which to be thankful

Posted in blessings

In keeping with this season of Thanksgiving I am following the lead of Ann V. at Listening and making a list of those things for which I am thankful. My goal is 1000, without repeating anything....I figure if I can think of 3 things each day then it will take me about 1 year to accomplish this goal. I intend to posts my list here as often as I can (the wee chick is still rather demanding of my limited time...and blogging just isn't high on her list of priorities...yet!). And don't look for any that are too personal in nature...I won't be listing those...remember my websleuthing incident?

...Psalm 107:8
Let them give thanks to the Lord for His Lovingkindness And for His wonders to the sons of men!

Annyhoo...here are my first three:

1. A Merciful Savior who loves me, warts and all.

2. A godly husband who loves me, warts and all.

3. Healthy children, who love me, warts and all

Those are the easiest and most obvious things...I suspect as my list grows it will become more challenging not to repeat myself.
I hope this inspires you to start your own list. Leave a comment if it does and I'll link to your blog so we can all be encouraged by one another.
Let's start a revolution....a revolution of Thankfulness...what beter way to give glory and honor to the One from whom all blessings flow.

About Me

Just the simple thoughts on life, children, books, nature, and God (to name a few) of an imperfect Christian momma as she ventures forth in search of the Sweet Life...

Words to Ponder

The morning wind forever blows; the poem of the world is uninterrupted, but few are the ears that hear it. ~Thoreau

The writer studies literature not the world...He is careful what he reads, for that is what he will write. ~Annie Dillard

About our homeschool

First and foremost we strive to instill in our children a deep and abiding love of God and a saving faith in Christ Jesus. And toward that end we use a mixture of the Classical Christian and Charlotte Mason approaches to homeschooling. We place a high level of importance upon reading the bible and good literature, keeping away from twaddle as much as possible! We study Latin and Poetry, Shakespeare and Geography, Writing and Math and Science, too! We try to incorporate Nature Studies as much as time and Babycakes will allow. And we study history in a 4-year cycle, repeating each time period (Ancients, Middle ages/Renaissance & Reformation, Colonial/Early American History, Modern) 3 times over the course of 12 years. We try to allow our children the time to really explore what interests them and time to just be kids.
