Thoughtful Motherhood

Public School, Christians, and the Annonymous Commentor

The last couple of posts (skip the "under construction" post) have really been weighing heavily on me.  I pray that God will direct the offended person back to this blog, so that they can fully understand my intentions.

One of the biggest reasons that this exchange has bothered me is because I'm fairly certain I know the annonymous commentor in real life.  The internet is a funny thing, I don't have a problem offending faceless, internet blog readers.  I should, but I don't.  But, to imagine that I've offended someone that I might see tomorrow really bothers me.

Let me start rambling, and see if you can make sense of my words.

I homeschool my children.  I do it because I feel God called me to.  I do it because they are MY responsibility, and I will have to stand before God for how they have been raised.  I do it because I don't trust the government or anyone else to teach and train my children the way that God has commanded me to.

I only have one real life friend that homeschools her kids.  The rest send their kids away for the majority of the day to a government school or to a church school.  Do I love these mothers?  Yes.  Do I respect their right to make decisions for their children?  Yes.  Do I think they have made the right/best decision for their families.  No.  Of course, you might be asking "Well, who are you to judge what they do?"

Ahh...well let me illustrate something.  I'm fat.  Not just chubby with baby weight, but honest to goodness, big butt on the tv news FAT.  I weigh 300+ pounds at the moment, and I'm just a hair under 5'4".  Now, all of these women that I know wouldn't hesitate to say that it is not in my best interest to be so fat.  They would tell me the truth, and try to help me because they love me and want me to have a more abundant life. Would I be offended?  No, because I know that I'm fat and I know that its wrong to be a glutton (which is how I got so darn fat in the first place.)

Well, I'm not sure why people get so offended when homeschoolers speak out against the dangers of institutionalized education, especially the secularized government version.  I just want to tell these moms the truth because I love them and because I want them to have a more abundant life.

Do you really want to send your child away for 8 hours a day, and then have to spend the rest of your time together pulling out the evil seeds that have been planted while he was away at school?  Do you really want him to be surrounded by 30 of his peers, all day long, with little adult supervision?  Do you know what belief systems those peers are bringing up in front of him?  Do you know what evil ideas they are exposing your child too?  Do you want to give Satan any ground to use in your child's life?  Satan can turn a conversation between two five year olds into a lifelong battle of sin.  Is that what you want to spend your life fighting?

Wouldn't you rather spend time training and teaching your child in the admonition of the Lord?  Wouldn't you rather protect your child from the evils of the world until you know he is at an age to understand?  Wouldn't you rather know exactly how your child spent his day without having to guess at what he did?  Wouldn't you rather your family be strong and unified, rather than splintered apart, each person to their own life?

I could go on and on, but I don't have enough time or space here to outline the extreme benefits of homeschooling.  My opinion is strong, and I'm not going to apologize for that.  I pray that you mothers out there will reconsider what you are doing to your families and look into homeschooling.  I will try to share links and info from better sources than me.

I totally agree

I came acrossed your blog by looking at the latest 100 entries, and I wanted you to know that I totally agree with your stand. I don't know anything about the offended blogger, but I understand your position. I am the only one of my "friends" that is homeschooling right now. I had really good friend that was homeschooling her children, but decided to put them in a church school. I know I shouldn't have been hurt about that but I was. She didn't even tell me herself that she had enrolled her children, I found out from another friend. Now, I can tell that things have definately changed in our relationship. Sorry to ramble on. Just wanted you to know that I totally agree with you. Keep standing! God Bless

Just to set the record straight, you do not know me IRL - I followed a link to your blog from SL some time ago. I have posted to you before on here that I love how your blog was set up and that I thought you were a great photographer. I have not read the entire post, so I am going to go back and do that now. If you want, I can PM you through SL and we can "talk" further there?

Just commenting about the other commenters

Hi MotherJoy-
I understand your strong feeling towards homeschooling, public school etc. Every once in a while you do come on pretty strong and I can see where some would get offended. When people feel like your judging them (even though you are not), they naturally are going to pull back. Even though you feel strongly about these issues; to say public school mothers are brain washed etc. is a little harsh. But, this is your blog to post what's on your mind.
Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm not bashing MJ or anything, just giving another point of view. Actually to write this post is hard for me because I do feel like I am being rude. After all it is her blog ;)

Blessings,
Linda<><

Couldn't agree with you more!

Homeschooling is the right thing for EVERYONE to do. I could do battle with you to see who would offend more by their stance on this - -hahahaha! :o)

Imagine if the Israelites in the OT had sent their kids to schools run by the Philistines... I don't think God would have looked on from the pillar of cloud and said, "sure, I understand. It's tough to teach them yourselves...the Philistines, they have more money, they can give your kids much more opportunity. Do whatever is right for you!" God is not a relativist!

Keep on, girl, I got your back!

Lindsay

PS, thanks for the prayers, I appreciate them...so does my baby!
