Thoughtful Motherhood - Halloween Help for Moms

Oct. 15, 2007 - Halloween Help for Moms
Posted in Christian Life

This is long, so please be patient and read on.  There are many links at the bottom that will be helpful to you.

Being a mother is an incredibly thought-provoking experience, full of many decisions each day.  These decisions need to be made thoughtfully and prayerfully.  I believe apathy and ignorance are rampant in the church. Because of this, most Christian mothers make decisions based on what their church-friends are doing, rather than based on the Word of God. No two Christian families are going to be just alike and make exactly the same decisions.  So please don't read what I have written as a judgement on those that make different INFORMED decisions than we do.  I do believe it is possible for two families to pray and research an issue and come to two different conclusions and both be in obedience to God.  However, those of you who are making decisions without becoming informed and seeking God's will need to realize that your lack of action in this area can destroy your families. (Hosea 4:6).

Having said that, I'd like to take the time to give other mothers some information about Halloween.  It comes every year, and is a struggle for many Christians.   Our Halloween journey has been a long one.  For the first few years of our son's life we enjoyed the typical Halloween experience of trick or treating.  We then became convicted that we shouldn't participate in Halloween because of its occultic and pagan origins.  However, we did what most Christians do and attended Christianized-Halloween celebrations that were nicknamed "fall festivals".  Some years we let our son dress up, other years we didn't.  Every year it brought about a time of trying to seek God's will and His truth.  Last year we finally allowed God to bring about his will for our family.  We have decided to not celebrate Halloween, in any way.

I tell you our story because I know that this is a hard and stressful issue for parents, one that may take years to fully develop.  I don't know where you are in your journey. I don't know what the Lord or your husband is leading you to do.  All I want to do is to give you some information that will help you in making an informed decision.  Please beware that some of these sites are NOT Christian.  I wanted you to get a real picture of what people who follow Satan believe about this "holiday'.  Please take a moment to pray for protection and guidance as you look at these sites.

What Wiccans believe about Halloween - a quote from the website...

Halloween, plain and simple is our favorite time of year. A true time for witches, Witchcraft itself, and Wiccans alike who feel that on this night the separation between the physical and spiritual realities is it's least guarded and it's veil the thinnest. "

OCCULT LINKS

Here are some links to info about the occult and New Age stuff.  I don't have time to write a huge article about all of the subtle things that are being brought into many Christians homes.  Perhaps I'll try to later.

regarding grafted in - read Romans chapter 11 KJV uses the term grafted in

oh and I too feel the same way about 10/31 .... if it's a day we are not to take part in, why do we feel it is ok to do "alternative" things? others tell me it's just a way to reach out and witness because the kids need somewhere to go and it's better they have "good clean" fun at a church....but to me that's like saying let's take the pagan fertility goddesses holiday or the birth of the sun god's holiday and "christianize" them ... and look at the mess that has caused.

however, DS loves going to DH's churches family fall festival and I don't know how many times I can put my foot down ... I've already put it down on buying the new transformers movie because there is reference to mastr baition being ok as long as it's done in the boys bedroom (purposefully misspelled to not seem dirty) and dirty inuendos and songs etc ... I don't want my 6 year old to see this movie over and over every day as I am sure he will if we own it...yes he saw it once at the movies but he doesn't remember the induendo comments or at this age even know what they are about but as he gets older he will and I'd rather avoid that false teaching.

with all the hollywood junk coming at us and the way we were raised falsely to go along with "easter" and 12/25 ... all LIES straight from the enemy that previos generations swallowed hook line and sink 'er but prior to 1800 something people in America knew not to partake in 12/25 paganism.....where did we go wrong? my thought is public school .... they want us all to be unified...so if we tell the kids it American to celebrate these things, then they start it and teach their children and so on it goes.

this may be harsh but it has to be said.

We have followed a similar path over the years; at first, we participated in mall-walking trick-or-treating. Then, as we became more and more aware of God's call on our lives, we moved to the "fall festivals" that local churches offered. When we realized that that was nothing more than an excuse for *bringing Halloween into the church*, we stopped attending. (Much to the shock and horror of many fellow Christians, I might add.) The next year, we handed out candy at a friend's house, attaching Scripture relating Jesus as light and evil as dark. It was an outreach effort, but honestly, I didn't see any neighbors at church that hadn't been before.

Finally, we realized that, as Christians, we have something very significant to celebrate on Oct. 31. Reformation Day! Instead of trying to counter the negative effects we saw Halloween having on our children (who were terrified of the costumes and spooky stuff in the store), we switched the focus to something that is God-honoring and integral to the way that we practice our faith in Christ. It has been a wonderful change, and now I find that I look forward to Oct. 31.

We took the exact same journey as you in regards to Halloween. In fact, when my children were young (and even before I had children), my house was the most decorated on the block! We did the whole trick or treat thing, then we did the Fall Festivals at church until finally we came to the same conclusion as you. It's really an evil holiday that glorifies everything evil. Thank you for sharing this with others-I think it's really important!!

I knew I liked you when I first came to your blog - it seems we have so much in common!! LOLOL

God bless you ~ Julie

About Me

I'm an almost ordinary mom. I'm a bit quirky in my tendency toward conspiracy theory and activism. I shout at the tv, which drives my hubby crazy. I was once a single mom of one son and God redeemed me with an amazing husband who loved us both. Later, God took my barren womb and knit together three little men in two and half years, and then shocked the stuff out of us knitting together a little lady. This blog is totally random, following the trends that only occur in my mind. My biggest aim is to live my life more joyfully and more thoughtfully.
