Thoughtful Motherhood - Are Dr.Phil and Oprah Christians?

Mar. 6, 2008 - Are Dr.Phil and Oprah Christians?
Posted in Christian Life

A friend of ours was on Dr.Phil this week.  Ed Ainsworth is an abstinence speaker. He speaks around the country at youth events and at high schools. Dr.Phil and almost the entire audience were unhappy with Ed's opinion (hm...should I say the Bible's?) that the safest sex is NO sex. At one point in the show Ed asked Dr.Phil if two kids came to him and said they were going to have sex, would he tell them not to do it or would he hand them a condom. Dr.Phil said he would hand them a BOX of condoms.

This is what I don't understand. Why are people so intent upon protecting their children from the consequences of sin? If two kids came to me and told me that they were going to have sex, I'd tell them not to, and give them all the reasons why. Then I'd pray like crazy that if they did it anyway, God would use WHATEVER means necessary to get them to stop, be it pregnancy or STD.

Sounds harsh, but we can't be so worried about the consequences of sin, that we forget the sin itself.

As for Oprah, she's on my hit list today because she is spreading lies about Jesus via a radio-show called "New Age Christ" on XM radio. What's so scary about this is that many CHristians think Oprah is a Christian, so they won't question what she's saying. Just because she mentions Jesus doesn't mean she's a Christian. She also mentions the universe, and many other new age ideas.

Christians need to get informed about how far the New Age philosophies have infiltrated our world and our church. Check out the site http://www.christiananswersforthenewage.org/. It has great info about all sort of anti-Biblical practices.

I think you guys are totally out of your minds. Who's bible do you read. Kids are going to have sex and praying to God will not change it. I would so much rather be honest with them about sex and give them condoms so they do not get pregnant or ill. That's all we need some more children from children. That would really help our world and our environment.

I am so glad you said this.

I cannot say whether or not Dr. Phil and Oprah are Christians, but I can look at both of their TV shows and say that they do not reflect Christian principles.

I had to stop watching Oprah's show after her repeated episodes promoting open marriage, polygamy, homosexuality, transgenderism, etc.

I have no idea what her radio show is about and I am thankful for that.

If these two are Christians then they are really being deceived.

About Me

I'm an almost ordinary mom. I'm a bit quirky in my tendency toward conspiracy theory and activism. I shout at the tv, which drives my hubby crazy. I was once a single mom of one son and God redeemed me with an amazing husband who loved us both. Later, God took my barren womb and knit together three little men in two and half years, and then shocked the stuff out of us knitting together a little lady. This blog is totally random, following the trends that only occur in my mind. My biggest aim is to live my life more joyfully and more thoughtfully.
