Thoughtful Motherhood

Taxes and Slavery

Alright folks, I'm pooped from being pregnant and unable to put together words in a coherent way. So, I'll just point you to a blog post by Candy that discusses taxes, Christianity, and slavery. Its a great read.

"Is that what our law says? The short answer? - Not exactly..."

Long answer - Yes, exactly. The law says we have to pay taxes. No ifs ands or buts.

I agree with most things she says, but as it stands we are legally obligated to pay taxes. She doesn't want to pay for welfare - thats cool. I don't want to pay for the war. Not a choice we get to make though. Do I think the welfare system needs to be totally revamped? Heck yes! Just as much as I think we don't need to be in a war right now. Doesn't mean I am not going to pay my taxes. I am also pissed that my tax money goes to subsidies for oil companies...still have to pay them, though.

She also overlooks all of the things that our taxes go to that isn't welfare - police, roads, basic infrastructure, etc.

Besides for that, I agree - taxes are stupid, especially how they are set up now.

As my better half pointed out, she does talk about police and other things our taxes go to. Sorry about that.

Hey yall. I don't agree with everything she says, there is some very '"interesting" stuff on her blog. But, its always good reading. I just don't know how she is able to write clearly with four kids. Maybe I'm just jealous.

Yeah, nice roads are a good thing. Have you ever been to PA and DC? The roads are horrible. They must use their tax money for something else ;)

Having driven through every state on the eastern seaboard, Connecticut has the best roads and Jersey the cheapest gas.
