Thoughtful Motherhood

Homeschool Room

We turned our dining room into a 'study', ie...a homeschool room. Its not totally done. I have to put painted molding up around the maps for a faux frame. They are too big to laminate or have framed, so I just stapled them to the wall and I'll add molding to finish them off. They are the Rand McNalley Classic World Maps from Staples. I love them, but their size made it hard to figure out how to protect them.

Sorry about the blurry picture. I need curtains, and I have the material to make some...but I just have to do it!

Here's my favorite part...the bookshelves. As a library geek, I love bookshelves.

Having a school room was my dream but I couldn't make it work. My oldest is too destractable and the youngest talks too much! So after trying to make it work, I just put a desk in each of their bedrooms and that's where they do individual work. We do our "together" subjects at the dining room table. So now I'm like a ping pong ball, going back and forth as they need me. Oh well, what else do I have to do?!!

I still PING between places. My main goal is to having everything school-related in one place. If we don't stay in there, I don't mind. I do preschool with the littles ones in the living room for storytime, fingerplays, and 'large motor activities'. When I take them to the schoolroom, they tend to distract older brother, so he may go into the kitchen or in the living room.

I think we'll always PING around... I can't imagine getting over that.

Your homeschool room is lovely! We have a "wild and wacky" room as we call it. It has desks and floor to ceiling chalk board paint on two walls. It was suppose to be our school room, but it's upstairs and we just feel like we "live" in our kitchen...so thus we tend to spread out at the kitchen table or flop down on a couch. I love your book shelves as well. Now I homeschool our boys ages 8 and 5. However, if we take in more children soon (foster/adoption) I'm going to have to pull a more central area together.

OK I rambled! Thanks for sharing!

Wow. Your schoolroom looks so nice! I love the bookcases. It's very clean or organized too. I enjoyed reading your blog. I'll come back again. Have a good day!

I love the yellow tubs on your bookcases in your homeschool room. Where did you find these and do you love them?
Thanks,
Heather
