Here are a couple of good articles about Sarah Palin. They come from different points of view (although both are conservative).
Voddie Bauchum on Sarah Palin
Doug Wilson (not Phillips) on Sarah Palin
I found things in both articles that I totally agree with. FIrst, I agree with Bauchum about gender roles. He says
"Are we really saying that we want to completely erase the distinctions between men and women. Do we really believe that it is good for our country to promote the view that women are merely men who happen to be biologically capable of having children (when it does not interfere with career advancement, of course)? "
This is a big concern of mine. When Sarah Palin becomes VP, she'll perpetuate the idea that women can 'have it all" by being sucessful business women and run a home. That's simply not true. Women cannot do both well. Either home or work will suffer. Women were made distinctively different from men, with different roles and duties. Which role are we going to embrace - the one God designed for us, or the counterfeit that the world offers?
Wilson discusses this issue as well:
"One more thing. An issue that will be discussed among some conservative Christians is the propriety of electing a woman. Evangelical Christians are overwhelmingly hostile to feminism, and so what is with that? I have argued before from Isaiah 3:12 -- "children are their oppressors, and women rule over them" -- that feminism is one of the things Scripture uses as an indicator of God's judgment on a culture. I still believe that, and also believe that we are in fact under this particular judgment in our culture. But as a biblical absolutist, and not a simple traditionalist, I also want to make room for the occasional Deborah. Life is funny, and you should remember that in the Bible Deborah was the dame who upstaged a fellow named Barak. Kinda spooky when you think about it."
Even though we know that having a woman VP doesn't fit into God's original plan for gender, we do need to "make room for the occassional Deborah". But no matter what, when women rule over men it is a sign of judgement from God. If we do have a female vice-president, it will be a sign that the men of our country have fallen asleep on the job and our content to let a woman rule them. I'm just not sure we should be so excited about it.

~ Hey There! ~
I appreciate seeing this thoughtful post. I think this election will all come down to common sense, good vs. evil.
I wrote a blog post about the election awhile back:

My mother has also written an excellent blog post about Sarah Palin:

I would love to discuss!
Take care and MAY GOD BLESS,

I have to say I'm just shocked. I can't believe God made women to be less equal then men. Or that having a woman in power means the end of the world. I also can't believe a woman would even support someone saying that a woman can't have a great career and a great family.
I also don't think it very Christian to judge people like you just did. Good thing I'm not "Christian."

I have yet to read the post before this one but with nannies, maids, and governess' etc I think it would be possible for a woman to do both of course she is still sacrificing some time with her children but if she's been told from above that duty and responsibility call then wouldn't it be a sin to disobey that calling? I just hope this doesn't add fuel to the fire for my DH to again tell me that as a stay at home mom I am of little value to him and that I must obey him if/when he tells me to get a job. I don't have a live in governess and maid to help out.

Who says that men are favored over women? The bible says that "So God created man in His own image...male and female created He them." (Genesis 1:27) And, who is to say that God is a man? "God is a Spirit..." (John 4:24)
The argument that women don't belong in politics disgusts me. Afterall, didn't Jesus's female disciples play a vital role in the continuance of His ministry? (Luke 8:2-3)

It really pains me to see you sell yourself, and all women, so short. Personally I am not for Palin for more intellectual reasons, not because of her girlie parts, but you do not know the home situation she will have if elected. Maybe her husband will take care of the home. And maybe he will do a better job.
I completely respect that you fall into a more traditional role of mother, wife, etc. However, imposing that on others because that is what you think God wants is unrealistic and it undermines women's strengths. Not everyone is the same, thank goodness.
Also, that women can get elected just because men are falling asleep is tremendously offensive to me. Why do you hate yourself so much? Why do you sell yourself so short? I am not a Christian, but frankly if there were a God I don't think he'd want you to have so much hatred against yourself or the women he created.
