Thoughtful Motherhood

Jewelry Questions

I thought I'd answer some of the questions about jewelry making. First, it is not hard. The hardest part is choosing beads that look nice together. I have a difficult time making decisions, so I spent more than an hour picking the beads.  At our local shop, you can string the beads yourself, and pay them to attach the clasps. I decided to do it myself to save money. I looked online for directions, used my hubby's needlenose pliers, and practiced a few times.

As for expense, it varies depending on the beads. For each necklace and earring set, I spent around $25. I have enough beads left over to make another necklace, a bracelet, and a few pairs of earrings. I could have spent less on the beads by going to Hobby Lobby or Michaels, but I was really happy with the choices that I made.

So, try it. It will be fun and you'll end up with some cute jewelry.

Ever since I made a brooch out of eyeglasses and old buttons in the ninth grade, I've wanted to make jewelry.  I've always put it off because I figured it would be too hard, too time consuming, or too expensive. Finally I decided to visit a local bead shoppe and try it out. For Christmas, I made my sister, mother, and mother-in-law necklace and earring sets.

My mother has beautiful blue eyes so I wanted to use blue beads. I originally bought some tiny green seed beads to use on her necklace, but I thought they looked cheap when I actually strung them.

This is my sister's. The beads are brown, green, and white.

Here's my mother-in-law'.  It's made of three different red beads.

Christmas Projects

I have so many projects going on right now. Several of them will be included in my Thirty Before Thirty list. I'm making stockings, which is something I've wanted to do for years. I actually started last year, but with the pregnancy and newborn, I never finished. Two of the other projects are gifts, so I can't go into those right now. One of them is something that I always wanted to do, but was too cheap and afraid. The other is something I started a looooongg time ago, but I haven't finished.

So, I'll be busy this weekend, and hopefully I'll post a bunch of pics after Christmas.

I cannot begin to tell you what an awesome moment it was! My hubby and I went to the store to pick up the magazine, and when I saw that my article was listed on the cover, I could NOT clear my head enough to pay for what we purchased! I ran to the car in the pouring rain, trying not to get my five copies of the magazine wet (one to keep, one to frame, one for mom&dad, one for inlaws, one for sis!). I almost cried when I saw MY name underneath the article title.

It may be a local magazine. I may be a haphazardly written article. But its MINE in PRINT!  Thank you Lord for such a marvelous gift before I'm thirty. He is good!
