What Does God Want from Me?
I've asked God this question a lot lately. I mean, A LOT! I know that He knows that in my heart of hearts, all I want to do is please Him, live according to His will, and fulfill His purpose for me. To do this, I have to know, what does He want from me?
If you've read my blog, you know I'm a pray-er. I pray all throughout the day every day. I read His Word. I meditate, I listen, and I try to be a "hearer and doer" of all He commands and all He teaches. I follow His revealed truth in my life. Our family has changed tremendously over the past several years. We seem to know nothing but peace and happiness--even in our trials. I know that following Jesus works. For years I tried to solve my problems my way, my psychiatrist's way, Oprah's way--nothing ever worked. But since I've followed God's Word for what it is --absolute truth-- everything works. I do what He reveals, what His written Word reveals--and I finally understand freedom, peace, rest, abundant joy, happiness, provision, care, protection--all that God offers and promises.
But, I get discouraged and confused sometimes. It really throws me for a loop when it seems I am "buffeted from all sides."
My husband and I study God's Word together all the time. He studies himself far more than me, on passages and questions we both have. We compare all that we hear/read by teachers, church leaders, pastors, authors and others or others to God's Word. I truly believe God's Word was written for me to understand, and that He commands me to compare all teachings to His Word for myself. My husband believes that, too, and he does it. No matter what teacher or pastor we are listening to or what book or article we are reading!
Lately, I have had a heavy burden. "What?" I fell on my knees once again and cried out to God,
GOD, WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME? DO I HAVE IT ALL WRONG?
It's so simple, He said. So simple. And you already know.
1. I want you. I want you to put me first in your life, and love me with all your heart, and follow after me with all your might. (I do Lord! Help me to do this more!)
2. I made you a woman and a wife. Just like I made the first woman and the first wife. My plan has never changed. You are to be a helpmeet to your husband, and submit to Him as unto Me, so that my will is fulfilled. You are to do all you can to help your husband be all that I want Him to be. (I do this, Lord! Please help me to do it better!)
3. I made you a mother--four times. I have place four eternal souls in your care and keeping. You are to raise them for me. (I am trying, Lord! Please guide me so that I do my best for you!)
4. And you are to use all the gifts and resources I have given you to the best of your ability: Give where you can give, serve where you can serve, share my work in your life however you can, tell your testimonies, and talk about me. Let me shine through you.
Simple.
And can you believe it? I'm pretty sure God is right again.
He's kinda funny that way.
So here I will still be, standing on God's Word and God's Word alone, loving Him with all my heart and following Him with all my might, helping and serving my husband, and training these four eternal souls for Him (well, three souls at the moment with one due to be born in 11 weeks! And I've started weeping just typing those words, I am so blessed by this new gift from God!), and looking for every opportunity to share about Him, write about His goodness, smile about His work in my life, give of what He has given to me, and serve and help others as He has helped me.
So stay tuned for more... as I am commanded to share all that He has done for me. This is one place I will do it! |
