Mrs. Incredible is trapped...

Posted in My Random Adventures • Aug. 21, 2006

under piles of papers!  True confession time:  When I was being put together, I got in the line for the superpowers and missed the one for the organizing gene...I am a complete and total hopeless mess when it comes to dealing with the reams of paper that come into my home.

I really don't understand it.  I throw out the junk mail as soon as it comes, but still there are piles of paper everywhere!  Ususally they just mount up big enough for me to throw them in a box when I get sick enough of looking at them.  Then of course, if I need a piece of paper I just know I have somewhere, I have to go through all the piles and all the boxes, and well, you know, it is not so super.  I can sort through them all, throw them away, and organize them.  I have used many systems for organizing them, from outboxes, etc to files, and have read many "get organized" type books.  The problem, as I see it, is that I can't seem to find a system that I follow through with using on a consistent basis.  So it sends me back into piles eventually.

To be fair, the problem is not all me.  I have papers for home life, money stuff, and kids activities plus a very active homebased business as well.  And my papers are VERY fertile.  They have babies while I am sleeping... lots of babies.

I know you SuperMoms out there have systems that work for you, and I would LOVE your ideas... SO HELP!

If I don't get a system I can work with soon, my tombstone is going to read, "Here lies Mrs. Incredible, buried in her paperwork."  And my biography will have to be titled, "Buried Alive."

Where do you put the mail that just came in? I have a mail box in my kitchen that has two "pockets" one for Handle Right Away and the other for Leisure Mail that way I know what has to be addressed when just by looking at my box that's in my kitchen.

I take the Handle Right Away mail into my "office" (yeah right, a corner in our bedroom) and pay my bills online and file them then and there in the file cabinet beside our computer desk. Paying online is a blessing because my bank keeps a ledger that I can just print out for my own records.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about Mail Sorter

I get piles every now and then too and just grab them up and stand over the trash can and take the rest and do what I have to with it. I hope this helps. Your mad lib was funny! lol

Aug. 22, 2006 - I should organize??

Mrs. Incredible,

so sorry, but I can't help with any ideas to become better organized. I have not been able to do it. I should post a picture of my homeschool closet. Not for the faint of heart. I started a new schedule for my kids, but I can't find where I stashed it-somewhere where I wouldn't lose it. sigh. If you find any good, workable hints, please share!

Oh, I'm so sorry! I know how you feel (or would that be "I feel your pain?") I can try to post my MOTH schedules if you think that would help. It's a little confusing because we have different schedules depending on the day, because of the oldest two having different sorts of classes this year.

I wish I could help you but I also have drifts of paper everywhere. I glare at it, to no avail!

I am now just getting this problem resolved. I had files for bills, taxes, medical etc, but the problem I had was with the papers that just didnt seem to have a home. I read about making a file system of A-Z and just putting those "extra" papers in that. It has worked out well. I also have a file for each child, so when they have something special that pertains to or was made by them, I put it in that file. The everyday stuff goes on the fridge or bulletin board until it is outdated then it is thrown away.
